Asia

The Asia Section covers Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and the Mekong region (Cambodia and Laos), the priority countries/region for Swiss development cooperation in South and East Asia.  The section also runs a regional disaster risk reduction and emergency relief programme for South East Asia and the Pacific based in Bangkok.

The SDC is supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in politically and socially fragile countries in the Asia region in three main areas:

  1. democratic state-building and respect for human rights;
  2. inclusive economic development and
  3. climate change and environmental sustainability.

All of these areas of intervention are aligned with the objectives of the Swiss International Cooperation Strategy 2021–24 and incorporate gender equality/social inclusion and governance as cross-cutting themes.
