Federal Council and Parliamentary Affairs SDC

Attached to the Foundations and Quality Division, the specialist service Federal Council and Parliamentary Affairs SDC is the SDC's centre of excellence for policy communication in relation to Parliament and the Federal Council. It provides an interface between the SDC and FDFA General Secretariat, other FDFA directorates, federal departments and offices, the Federal Chancellery and Parliamentary Services.

It takes the lead on drafting responses to parliamentary procedural requests that fall within the remit of the SDC, prepares speeches and background documents for the head of department and SDC senior management for meetings of parliamentary committees and for parliamentary sessions. It also provides support across the SDC in preparing information meetings and parliamentary visits.

The specialist service Federal Council and Parliamentary Affairs SDC assists SDC divisions in planning, coordinating and preparing Federal Council business. During federal office consultations, it also coordinates and drafts SDC position papers on the Federal Council and parliamentary business of other federal offices, as far as this relates to development policy, thus contributing to the development of consistent policy on sustainable development.

In performing its tasks, it liaises closely with the SDC divisions with a view to delivering targeted, concise policy communication. It also undertakes quality assurance with regard to content and ensures that policy is consistent with other positions adopted by the SDC.

Finally, the specialist service Federal Council and Parliamentary Affairs SDC organises the meetings of the Interdepartmental Committee for International Development and Cooperation (ICIDC) and, in this capacity, also helps to ensure consistent development policy.
