Eastern Europe

The Eastern Europe Section is responsible for supporting the Eastern European countries in their transition to democratic, market-based systems. The section contributes to the countries' regional and European integration. The joint cooperation strategies of the SDC and SECO form the basis for this.

The Eastern Europe Section is active in the regions of the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) and the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia), as well as in Ukraine and Moldova.

Thematically, it focuses on the following areas:

  • Decentralisation and good governance
  • Economic development, training and employment (especially for young people and the rural population)
  • Health, water and infrastructure
  • Humanitarian aid
