Malattie trasmissibili: evitare inutili sofferenze
Le malattie trasmissibili sono all’origine di grandi sofferenze, ostacolano lo sviluppo e rendono difficile uscire dalla spirale della povertà. Nell’ambito della lotta contro le malattie trasmissibili, la DSC punta sulla prevenzione, sul trattamento e sulla ricerca e lo sviluppo di nuovi farmaci e strumenti diagnostici. In particolare concentra il proprio lavoro sulla malaria, le malattie tropicali trascurate, le dissenterie e le patologie respiratorie acute come la polmonite.
Obiettivi princpiali della DSC
Tramite partenariati bilaterali e multilaterali, la DSC fornisce un contributo alla lotta contro la malaria, la tubercolosi, l’HIV/AIDS e le malattie tropicali trascurate.
Malaria
Nonostante gli enormi progressi compiuti, nel 2018 ogni due minuti un bambino è morto di malaria, una malattia che si può prevenire e curare. Nei Paesi in cui la malaria è endemica, la DSC finanzia pertanto la distribuzione di zanzariere, il rafforzamento dei sistemi sanitari e il sostegno a iniziative promosse dalle comunità locali. Sul piano internazionale appoggia inoltre iniziative globali quali il Fondo mondiale di lotta contro l’HIV/AIDS, la tubercolosi e la malaria, istituzioni di ricerca riconosciute e partenariati pubblico-privati che svolgono ricerche scientifiche all’avanguardia e sviluppano metodi di prevenzione, trattamenti e strumenti diagnostici innovativi che vengono messi rapidamente sul mercato e sono accessibili soprattutto per le fasce più povere della popolazione.
Nel 2007, su iniziativa della DSC, è stato fondato lo Swiss Malaria Group – che riunisce centri di ricerca con sede in Svizzera, istituzioni pubbliche, industrie private e rappresentanti della società civile.
Lo Swiss Malaria Group, che gode del sostegno della DSC, ha il compito di sensibilizzare i responsabili politici e l’opinione pubblica in Svizzera con l’obiettivo di:
- permettere alla Svizzera di conservare un ruolo guida nella lotta contro la malaria
- potenziare la ricerca e l’innovazione
- combattere la malaria sul campo in modo efficace
Malattie tropicali trascurate
Nel mondo, oltre un miliardo di persone è affetto da malattie tropicali trascurate, come la febbre dengue, la malattia del sonno e la leishmaniosi. Spesso non è possibile procurarsi i medicinali per contrastare queste patologie che colpiscono principalmente le fasce più povere della popolazione. Per questo la DSC sostiene partenariati pubblico-privati finalizzati alla ricerca e allo sviluppo di nuovi farmaci e strumenti preventivi e diagnostici contro le malattie tropicali trascurate. Inoltre, insieme ad altri uffici federali svizzeri, la DSC si adopera per garantire che nel mondo vi siano maggiori possibilità di accedere ai medicinali.
HIV/AIDS
La DSC sostiene programmi sull’HIV/AIDS e, adottando un approccio multisettoriale, punta soprattutto sulla prevenzione e sulla riduzione dell’emarginazione e della discriminazione delle persone affette da HIV/AIDS. Le cause e le conseguenze dell’HIV/AIDS vanno ben oltre il settore sanitario e interessano ambiti quali l’istruzione, il lavoro, l’alimentazione, il sistema legislativo e l’economia. Per questo, nel campo della salute sessuale e riproduttiva e dei diritti correlati, la Svizzera predilige un approccio globale per affrontare la problematica dell’HIV/AIDS tenendo conto di tutte le sue implicazioni. Nei Paesi con un’elevata percentuale di casi di HIV/AIDS, tale problematica è affrontata sistematicamente nell’ambito dei progetti della DSC.
La Svizzera partecipa attivamente agli sforzi intrapresi a livello mondiale per combattere l’HIV/AIDS e, in tale ottica, sostiene organizzazioni internazionali quali l’UNAIDS, il Fondo mondiale di lotta contro l’HIV/AIDS, la tubercolosi e la malaria e l’Organizzazione mondiale della sanità (OMS).
Contesto
Una minaccia costante
Benché le malattie tropicali trascurate continuino a colpire oltre un miliardo di persone, spesso mancano terapie efficaci e sicure poiché, a causa dello scarso potere d’acquisto delle fasce della popolazione più colpite, l’industria farmaceutica non ha sufficienti incentivi per investire finanziariamente nella ricerca e nello sviluppo di nuovi medicinali in grado di curare tali malattie. Per questo motivo la DSC si impegna nel quadro di partenariati pubblico-privati con l’intento di colmare queste lacune.
Resistenze
Grazie all’impegno profuso a livello internazionale nella lotta alla malaria, tra il 2000 e il 2018 il numero di nuovi contagi è diminuito di circa un terzo e quello dei decessi riconducibili a questa malattia si è addirittura dimezzato. Tali progressi sono il risultato di un migliore coordinamento tra i vari attori coinvolti su scala mondiale e di cospicui investimenti. Tuttavia, lo sviluppo di resistenze ai farmaci e agli insetticidi rappresenta un grosso problema e minaccia di pregiudicare i risultati raggiunti se nel frattempo non verranno sviluppati nuovi prodotti efficaci.
Per quanto riguarda l’accesso a medicinali, la Svizzera è in grado di offrire competenze nel campo della ricerca, know-how, prodotti e tecnologie che sono molto richiesti a livello globale e possono fare una notevole differenza nello sviluppo duraturo di un Paese. La DSC mette a disposizione queste competenze per risolvere problemi sanitari di portata internazionale.

8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Geneva, June 2025

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is the most important international conference to discuss progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR. The eighth session of the Global Platform will be hosted by Switzerland in Geneva in June 2025. It will review advances in the realisation of the calls to action made in 2023 by the United Nations General Assembly on the midterm review of the Sendai Framework and will be key for the identification and support of measures to accelerate DRR implementation and improve coherence with the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement.
Addressing Climate and El Niño-related Risks in Southeast Asia

Through an innovative partnership with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) and Geoneon, the SDC will support the creation of high-quality geospatial data products to support riskinformed and climate-smart decision-making in development cooperation and DRM in priority subnational areas in Lao PDR and Indonesia, contributing to and complementing efforts under the SERVIR Southeast Asia project implemented by ADPC and supported by USAID and NASA.

La Suisse soutient, depuis 2015, le droit à une éducation de qualité inclusive pour ce public à travers une offre d’éducation alternative, adoptée par l’Etat nigérien en avril 2022. La troisième phase du programme mettra l’accent sur la mise à l’échelle du modèle et les stratégies de rétention des élèves défavorisés, via la responsabilisation des acteurs locaux et l’adaptation du milieu scolaire.
