The joint action plan was presented on 24 November 2013 in Geneva by the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Catherine Ashton, on behalf of the Foreign Ministers of China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, the USA, and of Iran. The deal constitutes the first major step towards ending the deadlock on Iran’s nuclear programme and will give new impetus to efforts aimed at resolving the issue. It is a milestone.
The agreement reached in Geneva confirms the appropriateness of the diplomatic route championed by Switzerland. It is the only approach which can bring about a solution that is not only lasting but also acceptable to all parties involved.
Switzerland intends to offer the on-going process its tangible support and has informed both sides of its willingness to provide its good offices again and, in particular, to host and facilitate all future meetings.
