
From 22 to 25 October 2025, Mr Cassis will be travelling in the Middle East. On 22 October, Mr Cassis will meet with the Jordanian foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, in Amman. Their talks will focus on security developments in the region and Jordan's role as a key stabilising factor in the Middle East.
Intensifying relations with Iraq
At the invitation of the Iraqi foreign minister, Fuad Hussein, Mr Cassis will go to Iraq on 23 October for an official meeting. Official talks with Mr Hussein and a courtesy visit to the prime minister, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, are planned for the time in Baghdad. The talks will focus in particular on bilateral relations between the two countries, the geopolitical situation in the Middle East and Iraq's growing role as a mediator in the region. During his visit to Iraq, the head of the FDFA will inaugurate the Swiss embassy, which has recently reopened in the capital Baghdad after a 33-year absence. He will also meet with economic stakeholders, including Swiss companies operating in Iraq.
Deepening bilateral relations
Mr Cassis will continue his trip on 24 October 2025 with a working visit to Kuwait. A meeting with the Kuwaiti foreign minister, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, is planned, as is a courtesy visit to former prime minister His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. The talks will focus on joint cooperation within the framework of the Global Alliance for the Missing and regional security developments, among other topics. Mr Cassis will officially inaugurate the new embassy building.
