On the occasion of the 30 years of the United Nations Convention on the Rights for the Child, the EU Delegation, UNICEF, the Embassy of Belgium and the Embassy of Switzerland organized a drawing contest for school children in Kazakhstan. The children, aged between 6 and 17 years, were invited to draw a picture on the topic of one or several Human Rights.
Seven winners from different age categories and different regions of Kazakhstan were selected and awarded at the Kids4Rights awarding ceremony, which took place on the 7th of December, in the shopping mall Mega Silk Way in Nur-Sultan. On behalf of the Embassy of Switzerland, the Chargé d’Affaires, Christa Felder Raimondi, congratulated and handed over a prize to the 6-years-old Yermukhammed Khassym and the Attaché, Melanie Wäger, awarded a prize to the 16-years-old student Aisha Sanamassova.
This event completed and concluded the previously launched travelling exhibition Spirou4Rights, which consisted of a series of comics about all 30 human rights and that was shown in different schools and the Youth Palace in Nur-Sultan, as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Both, the Spirou4Rights exhibition as well as the drawing competition proved to be successful in arousing interest in children and young adults for this important domain.
