Welcome message by Ambassador Urs Schmid
On behalf of my entire team, I welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Switzerland in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan with residence in Nur-Sultan. It is for me an honour and a pleasure to serve as Swiss Ambassador to these two wonderful countries since autumn 2016.
My homeland and my host countries are certainly very different in many ways. But they also share some important similarities. They are landlocked states and they have always been at crossroads of commercial and cultural exchange. As a result, our societies have for a long time been connected to the outside world and are characterized by diversity of language, culture and religion. Tolerance, inclusiveness and the rule of law are the fundamental means to achieve a peaceful and prosperous future for our respective societies.
In the last two years, our cooperation has been particularly significant and intensive. In 2017, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Kazakhstan, as well as between Switzerland and Tajikistan. In other words, Switzerland has been a friend and partner to both countries since the very beginning of their existence as independent nation states. With its “Flower Power” pavilion and the set-up of a temporary “swissnex lab”, Switzerland has contributed to the Astana EXPO 2017, by bringing Swiss innovative spirit in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energies and global water management. Within the framework of its Blue Peace Central Asia Initiative, Switzerland has attached great importance to the latter point and will continue to actively support national and regional initiatives to improve cross-border, integrated water management.
The visit of the Swiss Federal Councillor Johann Schneider Ammann to Kazakhstan in the summer of this year marked the fourth visit of a member of the Federal Council within the last two years – an evident proof of our close and lively ties. Furthermore, I am proud that with the support of our Embassy, many artistic, cultural and musical events have been taking place all across the country. In 2019, the 10th anniversary of the Embassy of Switzerland’s presence in the city of Nur-Sultan offers another occasion to further deepen our mutual relations.
This site provides you with general information about Switzerland and its relationship with Kazakhstan. It also offers information on visa requirements, Swiss citizenship, and consular affairs. If you require information regarding Tajikistan, please visit the website of the Swiss Cooperation Office SDC and Consular Agency located in Dushanbe.
We are always keen on improving our services and welcome your suggestions and comments regarding this website. For further inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact the Embassy at: firstname.lastname@example.org. My team will be happy to assist you.
Thank you for your visit.
