In 2019, Switzerland and the Republic of Poland celebrated the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. On this occasion, the President of the Swiss Confederation Ueli Maurer travelled to Warsaw on 14 May 2019 where he was received by the Head of State of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda. In addition to bilateral talks, a ceremony took place in the Old Orangery at Łazienki Park where various representatives from both countries gathered. The two Presidents also had the pleasure of welcoming ski jumpers Kamil Stoch and Andreas Küttel, which was symbolic of leaping into the next century of bilateral relations.

This year, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the diplomatic presence of Switzerland in Poland. The first Swiss Ambassador to Poland arrived in Warsaw in 1921. Ambassador Hans Pfyffer von Altishofen, a former high-ranking military officer with a Polish wife, presented his credentials to Marshal Piłsudski on 22 October 1921. The Embassy was first located at Hoża 48, then moved several times until it found its current home at Aleje Ujazdowskie 27 in 1947. Read more about the Swiss Embassy from 1921 until today here (PDF, 7.7 MB, English).

To celebrate our centennial diplomatic presence, we are organizing a range of projects and activities that will underscore the friendship between Switzerland and Poland: "Przyjaźń na okrągło" (friendship all around) is what we are promoting this year. Among the projects within the framework of the anniversary are a large-scale installation, an art exhibition, an exhibition dedicated to CLEANTECH, as well as a Game Jam with Polish and Swiss videogame developers. On 15 May, we already opened the Embassy’s doors to the public as part of the Night of Museums in Warsaw. Stay tuned for more in our event section and on our social media channels.
