Repatriation operation of the FDFA

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the current coronavirus outbreak to be a pandemic. There is a risk of infection in all regions of the world. Since 16 March 2020, the Federal Council has therefore advised Swiss travellers abroad to return to Switzerland (de, fr, it).

Since many Swiss travellers are no longer able to make their own travel arrangements to return home owing to local travel restrictions, the FDFA has initiated a repatriation operation in cooperation with a number of airlines. Flights are announced as soon as operational details are sorted out with the airlines and local authorities. There is no guarantee that all Swiss citizens can be repatriated.

We continue to call on all Swiss travellers abroad to register their current whereabouts and travel plans as soon as possible on the "Travel Admin App" in order to ensure that the we can contact them.

Situation in the UAE

A return flight from Dubai to Zurich is scheduled for the coming days. Details will follow soon to all registered passengers.

If you wish to depart on this repatriation flight, please register by sending an e-mail to the following address until Thursday, 2 April 2020: abudhabi.consular@eda.admin.ch

Passengers are required to comply with the general hygiene rules of the FOPH.

Flight costs

Passengers travelling on repatriation flights are required to pay normal airfare prices and are billed after returning to Switzerland.

Transport to the airport

Travellers must make their own transport arrangements to the airport.

Confirmation

As soon as the definitive passenger list is drawn up, the Embassy will contact the passengers via e-mail with further instructions. Persons who cannot be given a seat on the flight will be informed accordingly, with details of further steps.

Baggage allowance

Each person is entitled to one carry-on baggage and one checked baggage of max. 23 kg.

Please contact the Embassy by telephone only in an emergency to keep the lines as open as possible. We are counting on your solidarity with fellow Swiss citizens who are in urgent need of help or support (medical emergency, etc.). Thank you for your cooperation.
