WFP Additional Contribution 2022 to Support WFP’s Operations in the Chad

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland supports annually in 28 SDC priority countries operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. It funds indistinctively Country Strategy Plans, incorporating all WFP programmes or projects, based on affected population needs and potential synergies with other local partners, especially national governments and civil society.

Green Agenda in Serbia: Get Started, Take Action and Scale Up

With this project SDC contributes to efficient, inclusive and sustainable implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, envisaged by the EU Green Deal. It will improve policy and base-conditions for its more efficient rolling-out and support pilot projects for future scaling-up. This contribution to UNDP will tackle these challenges with the aim to increase national and subnational government capacities, provide financial support for local public and private actions, and help Serbia reach its climate targets.

Jordan ACF - Community-based WASH service provision in Azraq Camp

While water supply available for refugees in Azraq camp now meets minimum standards, ongoing concerns remains around water conservation, with informal water connections and vandalism of shared WASH resources. Over the last two years, increased water consumption which led to the erosion of water supply, weak pressure in the water network, and inequitable distribution were observed. This made empowering refugees to take accountability to promote efficient use of water and sustainable management of the WASH facilities very critical.

Jordan Direct Action: National Flood Mapping Programme

Floods and flash floods are frequent events in Jordan that affect lives, assets and livelihoods. Based on a request from the Government of Jordan, SDC will support the relevant institutions in establishing a national approach for integrated flood risks management. The support will set the basis for flood hazards and risks mapping and for a coordinated risk management. SDC in collaboration with the Federal Office for Environment will facilitate transferring Switzerland's profound experience in this domain.

Support to Gaza Community Mental health Programme

By continuing its support to Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP), Switzerland helps addressing the increasing distress, psychological and psychiatric problems facing Gazans. It further assists the organization in the internal change process led by a new Board of Directors. Under its new strategy (2022-2024), GCMHP will promote community resilience and tackle conflict-related violence by introducing digitalized mental health services. Alleviating distress and traumas contributes to fostering social cohesion and preventing radicalization and violence.

SPHERE Humanitarian Accountability Project 2022

Sphere is a diverse global community that brings together frontline practitioners, humanitarian agencies, community organisations, trainers, donors, policy makers, government agencies and affected communities, around a common goal – to improve the resilience of, and outcomes for, people affected by disaster and crisis. The Sphere Handbook is one of the most widely known and internationally recognised sets of common principles and universal minimum standards in humanitarian response.

Mozambique UNICEF Country program support

01.01.2022 - 31.05.2023

Through UNICEF country program support, Switzerland contributes to integrated climate resilience, disaster risk reduction and preparedness in the WASH sector for communities at risk of cyclonic events. The program focuses on communities facing the triple risk of lacking access to WASH while being exposed to climate-related and health-related hazards. In addition, UNICEF program will respond to specific gaps in the emergency response at national and sub-national levels and prepare the WASH sector for a joint and systematic approach to climate change.


Araket for better life in new settlements

01.01.2022 - 31.01.2027

Residents of the new settlements are the most vulnerable and are largely invisible to state support. Due to lack of legal status in their place of residence and lack of awareness, these residents have limited access to public services. Switzerland decided to support these left-behind population by raising awareness of their rights, providing access to public services, involving local governments in improving living conditions, creating economic opportunities for women and thus reducing their vulnerabilities.

Core Contribution to International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM)

The International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) is an innovative, independent, multilateral financing vehicle to mobilise additional resources at scale in support of the resilience, development and independence of public interest media in low- and middle-income countries, where they often face existential threat with grave implications for democracy and development. SDC’s support will leverage Switzerland’s engagement for freedom of expression and democracy.

Core Contribution to Ground Truth Solutions (GTS) 2022-2024

By supporting Ground Truth Solutions, Switzerland aims to enable humanitarian actors to systematically consider feedback of affected populations. Adapting humanitarian interventions based on such feedback contributes to making programming more relevant and adapted to the needs on the ground. This, in turn, contributes to the larger goal of better, more efficient, more effective and more accountable humanitarian aid. Ground Truth Solutions provides the methodology and the necessary expertise to drive this agenda forward.

Social Performance Task Force (SPTF)

01.01.2022 - 31.12.2025

Savings, loans, insurance and digital finance are key enablers for low-income households to improve their livelihoods and for micro-entrepreneurs to run their businesses. The SPTF promotes client-centric and responsibly offered financial services through the application of the Universal Standards for Social and Environmental Performance Management. This will contribute to serve 60% of adults (70% women) in low-income countries not having access yet to financial services.
