More coffee with less water – towards a reduction of the blue water footprint in coffee production

Intensified coffee production in Vietnam, the world’s second largest coffee producer, has resulted in seasonal water scarcity due to over-irrigation and water mismanagement. In this project Nestlé and SDC partner up to support achieving sufficient water availability for all water users in Vietnam. The project showcases that saving water is both, sustainable and profitable, for small scale coffee farmers. An aspect featured in global outreach and policy dialogues as well as in Switzerland as the world’s trading hub for coffee.

Integrated Water Resources Management in the Barind areas

Reducing Food Losses through Improved Post Harvest Management in Ethiopia

Ethiopia continues to experience high post-harvest losses around 30% annually due to inappropriate use of technologies and mal-practices. Building up on the success stories and knowledge gained from SDC’s long-term engagement in post-harvest management and lessons learnt from the first phase, the second phase aims at promoting affordable and effective on-farm storage technologies and management practices to reduce post-harvest losses for smallholder farmers in Ethiopia.

La phase 1 du PDIEM a rénové 6 infrastructures économiques et marchandes d’importance nationale/régionale, pour dynamiser l’économie locale. Le gouvernement a demandé de répliquer ce projet à d’autres endroits. En cofinancement avec les communes et l’Etat, la phase 2 rénove 4 autres infrastructures, intégrant la gestion des déchets. Les revenus contribueront à entretenir les marchés, les taxes générées seront réinvesties pour des services publics améliorant les conditions de vie.

ACTED Earthquake response in Chong-Alai region

To complement and complete the efforts supported by Switzerland in the immediate aftermath of earthquakes in remote Chong-Alai region in May 2017, the project's Phase 2 will provide shelter construction assistance to the remaining vulnerable earthquake-affected households that were unable to re-build their houses. The assistance will be in the form of distribution of construction materials to the remaining affected households and provision of technical assistance on affordable and replicable earthquake-safe construction techniques.
