Air Pollution Impact on Health

This project aims at reducing the risks of air pollution to maternal and child health in urban Mongolia targeting the most polluted areas of Ulaanbaatar and one province centre. This sector governance project establishes evidence linking air pollution and its health impact, pilots and improves risk reduction measures for children and pregnant women, and both will inform policy making. Swiss know-how will be applied, i.e. through involvement of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.

Somalia - Support to the Durable Solutions Initiative (DSI)

In Somalia, more than 2.6 mio people are internally displaced. Switzerland contributes to the provision of durable solutions for these people in the region by enhancing the awareness and the capacity of all relevant humanitarian, development and state-building actors under the leadership of the Somali Government. By addressing the underlying causes of protracted displacement, the affected people are offered the perspective of integration and self-reliance rather than migration.

CISP: Protection and Humanitarian Assistance at the Colombian-Venezuelan borders

SDC will support the Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli (CISP) in improving humanitarian assistance for people living along the Colombo-Venezuelan border (Apure, Táchira, Arauca, Vichada, Norte de Santander) in the areas of protection, access to education, health, water and sanitation, and nutrition.

Support to More Effective Mine Action and Strengthening of National Mine Action Capacities

More than 20 years after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), landmines, cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) still pose a serious social, economic, environmental and security threat. This last project phase will focus on the improvement and practical implementation of land release techniques and procedures, thus contributing to mine-risk free Bosnia and Herzegovina within reasonable deadlines and to sustainable improvement of living conditions for the inhabitants in communities previously affected by ERW.

Le projet vise à réduire les risques naturels via le transfert de compétences aux acteurs locaux, la sensibilisation des populations et la création de conditions favorables à la planification/réalisation des mesures de réduction de risques qui protègent les personnes vulnérables dans trois communes du département Sud-est.

After two decades of civil war and the following establishment of an internationally recognised federal government of Somalia in 2012, the UN Joint Programme for Local Governance and Decentralised Service Delivery (JPLG) supports the building up of more effective, accountable and inclusive local governance systems. Focusing on improved regulatory frameworks, enhanced public service delivery, and civic engagement, SDC contributes to enhanced state legitimacy, peacebuilding and more equitable access to public service well-being for all citizens, aiming thereby at more stability in the Horn of Africa.

China: Rehabilitation and management strategy for over-pumped aquifers under a changing climate

In the past 30 years the aquifers in the North China plain have been over-exploited. Based on cutting-edge Sino-Swiss expertise in real-time groundwater monitoring and modelling, the project will implement groundwater and agricultural management policies to stabilize groundwater levels as a buffer to climate change induced droughts. The project will work with farmers and local authorities to facilitate policy uptake. Findings are relevant for many water-stressed countries and will be shared globally.

Honduran Police Strengthening

The program supports the reforms of the National Police focusing on institutional integrity: reform of the police education system, community policing and effective control systems for personnel. In the Gulf of Fonseca and the Mosquitia, justice and security sector actors, local governments, civil society, private sector and indigenous populations strengthen their cooperation and jointly implement local and regional violence prevention strategies.

Pakistan NDRMF Consultant Disaster Risk Financing

While Pakistan faces significant disaster risk and an increasing rate of occurrence of hazardous eventsi there is very limited understanding of instruments for Disaster Risk Financing (DRF), like insurance soveretgn risk transfer and preparedness for budget reallocations The DRF Consultant will assist the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) in disaster risk modelltng work including the formulation of a national DRF strategy for Pakistan and DRF instruments which can support Government's efforts to better manage the risks and their significant financial implications.

Migrant Rights and Decent Work (MiriDew)

Remittances sent home by over 3 million Nepali migrant workers have significantly reduced poverty. Nevertheless, the rights of migrants are regularly violated. The proposed project will enhance the Government of Nepal’s understanding of overseas labour market conditions and strengthen mechanisms to better protect the rights of Nepali workers at home and abroad through better consular support and a strong presence in the international policy dialogue.

lllicit Financial Flows (IFF) constitute a fundamental obstacle to economic growth and good governance in the development countries. Building on previous and current OECD/DAC work on IFF, the Development OECD Co-operation Directorate (DCD) and SDC are prepared to establish a partnership on IFF to contribute in designing policies and building partnerships to address IFF across source, transit and destination countries. Switzerland thereby contributes to efforts of the international community to achieve SDG 16.
