The Humanitarian Aid will support the immediate response with delivery of food assistance through the WFP. The South Cooperation will support early recovery by strengthening production of local construction material and capacities through the PNUD.

There is a demand that the United Nations Development System (UNDS) is capable to measure its results in supporting partner countries to implement the 2030 Agenda. This contribution will help to strengthen the evaluation function of the UNDS as a whole as well as of selected partners of the UN system, particularly UNFPA. The intervention will in addition build national evaluation capacity via the EvalPartners Network that was set up by the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG).

Strengthening the Climate Adaptation Capacities in the South Caucasus

The project will (i) facilitate the development of multi-hazard mapping and risk assessment methodology enabling 1.7 million inhabitants’ reduced exposure towards climate-induced hazards in Georgia; (ii) contribute to the safer livelihoods and infrastructure of 373’800 residents in ten municipalities by developing response and preparedness plans; and (iii) foster evidence-based policymaking and advocacy on climate adaptation, natural hazards and mountain development in the South Caucasus.

Making Labour Market Work for Young People in Albania

The Albanian economy has difficulties to absorb young people entering the job market. By addressing all dimensions of employment, namely labor demand, job intermediation and labor supply, RisiAlbania project will apply a comprehensive approach to reduce the high youth unemployment (28.9% in 2016). The project will facilitate private sector growth in targeted sectors, leading to creation of 2200 new jobs, by the end of 2021. lt will contribute to 3000 young people placed in jobs and 7500 youth improved their market-oriented skills.

In the three countries of the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), many women face job market discrimination. In the absence of policy to create equal opportunities and jobs for women in the formal economy, women work unprotected in the informal sector. The Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus project seeks to promote women's economic empowerment to facilitate their equal access to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology (ISCB)

The Indo-Swiss Collaboration on Biotechnology is a long-standing (over 40 years) agricultural research cooperation between Switzerland and India. It aims to develop products (seed varieties, cultivation techniques) that respond to the needs of India’s smallholder farmers. Currently, four networks of Indian and Swiss institutions are researching on biofertilizer and –irrigation, finger millet, pigeon pea and cassava. A final phase will allow them to finalize their research, and give space to properly document the partnership and develop knowledge products.
