Support to the UNDS Reform 2022-2025

Switzerland has been a champion of the UN Development System (UNDS) Reform since its inception. In 2020, Member States confirmed the reform’s direction and provided new impetus. This intervention will strengthen the oversight of Members States over the progress of the reform, support system-wide evaluations and institutional learning and provide funding for joint action to deliver collective results across the UNDS at country level to accelerate the 2030 Agenda implementation.
Facilitating access to antibiotics for everyone (GARDP)

Antibiotic-resistant infections are among the top 10 global health threats worldwide and particularly disproportionately burden low-resource settings. The Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership mission is to accelerate the development and facilitate access to and sustainable use of effective antibiotics for everyone. SDC support will build a sustainable ecosystem to ensure equitable access to quality antibiotics in low- and middle-income countries.
Bashki të Forta (BtF) - Strong Municipalities

The project aims at strengthening capacities of all 61 albanian municipalities (executive and councils) to assume their functions. Citizens will benefit from improved services based on standards and reliable data. A national performance based system of grants will contribute to improve municipal governance and will incentivise municipalities to perform better.

Support to Health transition

On average, about 2,000 migrants stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for several months at a time on their way to the EU. Many of them have health problems and are in need of medical care. However, 95% of migrants are not entitled to get health care from BiH health providers and depend on donor-funded services. Switzerland supports the efforts of BiH authorities to integrate the health care provision for migrants adapted to their needs into the national health care system and thus to improve access to health for all.

Community-based and Integrated Mental Health Psychosocial Support Services

Addressing the psychosocial needs of Rohingya survivors of gender-based violence and other traumatic incidents remains an immediate need in Cox’s Bazar. Switzerland partners with the UNFPA to improve access and delivery of mental health services by training service providers, coupled with a community-based approach. The project builds on Switzerland’s longstanding experience of working with the refugee and host communities on prevention and improving protection services, consequently facilitating better well-being of communities.

This project offers a longer-term integrated learning and a custom-made mentoring approach, bringing in social enterprise and development expertise, to strengthen the institutional capacity, strategies, and leadership of local organizations largely operating in the conflict-affected Northeast of Nigeria. It aims to extend their potential and impact, while leveraging partnerships. With this allocation, Switzerland contributes toward its Grand Bargain commitments on localization of aid.

Safe and meaningful protection in the Far North

The Far North region of Cameroon is facing a severe, complex and protracted humanitarian crisis. It combines chronic insecurity due to the presence of armed extremists groups, Boko Haram related and others, with weak public and legal services and increased effects of climate change. The project will improve the protection and dignity of individuals by strengthening coordination, protection mainstreaming as well as safe and accessible GBV and child protection programming.
Community Action for Sustainable Forests (CASFor)

Building on SDC`s long-term experience in forest management this project contributes to Switzerland’s engagement on climate change. Together with UN agencies and NGOs, forest sector governance will be strengthened and community forest group members’ livelihoods will be improved. Forest degradation will be reduced by sustainable management of community forests in four provinces, leading to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to Cambodia’s Nationally Determined Contributions and the Agenda 2030.

Integrated Programme on Fair Recruitment FAIR III

Switzerland partners with the International Labour Organization to promote fair and ethical recruitment of migrant workers. By this, it contributes to safe and regular migration, in line with Swiss foreign migration policy. It enhances migrants’ contribution to development in selected African countries, creates a level playing field for responsible employers, and protects vulnerable migrants from abuse and exploitation.

CREWS - Contribution to the Climate Risks and Early Warning Systems Initiative

The Climate Risks and Early Warning Systems Initiative (CREWS) supports Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States in creating necessary human capacities to generate and communicate climate and weather risks timely and effectively. This allows saving millions of lives and significantly reducing economic losses caused by natural disasters and a changing climate. The Swiss contribution supports CREWS as key mechanism to achieve the UN Early Warnings for All Initiative. The combined expertise of SDC and MeteoSwiss increases impact and sustainability of CREWS.

Equitable access to safe water and sanitation facilities and services is by far not achieved and a stronger push on multiple levels will be necessary over the next decade to reach SDG 6. This includes developing and using innovative technologies, based on applied research, to foster affordable and sustainable solutions for increased access to safe water and adequate sanitation. To this aim, the SDC continues its fruitful collaboration with the Swiss Research Institute Eawag.
PHRASEA - Programme d’Hydraulique Rurale – Appui au Secteur Eau et Assainissement

Moins de la moitié des nigériens ont accès à l’eau potable et moins d’un tiers utilisent des services d’assainissement et d’hygiène de base. Les entités décentralisées, en charge de fournir le service public de l’eau et de l’assainissement, manquent de ressources. À travers PHRASEA, la Suisse les appuie à assumer leurs fonctions, ainsi améliorant les conditions de vie de la population. Cette troisième phase va consolider l’approche décentralisée et ancrer les bonnes pratiques au niveau national à travers le fonds hydraulique.
