The “Providing Vital Education to Children and Livelihoods Opportunities to Youth in Jordan” project is supported by SDC since 2019 and enters its final phase. It aims to improve the quality of education and safety at school and directorate level for refugees and Jordanians. While at the same time, the livelihoods component wiII bridge the gap between education and employment through skills training and partnerships with the private sector.

Emergency food security and livelihood assistance to conflict-affected populations in Northeast Nigeria

Food insecurity and malnutrition remain prevalent across Northeast Nigeria, mainly driven by the ongoing conflict and ensuing mass displacement. The situation, affecting at least four million people, is exacerbated by high food prices and the impacts of the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. SDC’s funding to FAO seeks to strengthen the resilience of crisis-affected people by improving their food production and productivity and increase their protection, with a particular focus on women.

Improved access to quality reintegration services for children and adolescent formerly associated with non-state armed groups in Northeast Nigeria

Thousands of children and youth suffer from the conflict in Northeast Nigeria, including from various forms of violence and forced recruitment by non-state armed groups. The project provides psychosocial support, education, and socio-economic reintegration assistance to children and youth formerly associated with armed groups, and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. Their successful reintegration is a key prerequisite towards sustainable peace.

Building Resilience and Working Towards Durable Solutions in Darfur

The present intervention will work to create an enabling environment for displacement-affected communities in Darfur to find lasting solutions to their situation of displacement. In view of the multifacetted barriers to durable solutions (DS) the project will adopt a triple Nexus approach involving humanitarian, development and peacebuilding activities while ensuring a strong community-led engagement.

Pakistan Direct Action Early Recovery after Floods 2022

Over 33 million people have been affected by the floods of August 2022, causing the death of 1’600 persons and damaging over 2 million buildings. The Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA) deployed a rapid response team to assist the people in the hard-hit Swat Valley by distributing Non Food Items, repairing damaged schools and WASH facilities and constructing bridges. Due to the prevailing needs, a Direct Action will scale-up the activities for eight more weeks.

Strengthening Governance and Human Rights in Central America

The program supports the entities of the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) in their mandate in order to strengthen the IAHRS’s capacities to monitor and issue recommendations and reparation measures for the protection of the human rights of human rights defenders, women as well as indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples in Central America. In particular, the capacities of civil society organizations to activate the IAHRS through advocacy actions will be reinforced.

Switzerland’s Engagement as Co-Chair of the Pooled Fund Working Group 2022-2023

In July 2022, Switzerland took over the co-chair of the Pooled Fund Working Group (PFWG) for one year. The PFWG brings together the partners of the Country Based Pooled Funds (CBPFs) to set the strategic direction of the CBPFs. The Swiss objectives supported by this proposal are to ensure that localization is understood and practiced consistently across CBPFs, to increase the sharing of experiences and best practices among CBPF fund managers, and to broaden the CBPF donor base.
Blue Peace Central Asia 2.0 (BPCA 2.0)

Blue Peace Central Asia supports regional organisations and policy-makers to foster stability through more equitable and efficient transboundary water management in the context of climate change. It works across countries, sectors and generations to capacitate water experts and diplomats and to strengthen research and science for policy-making. In line with SDG 6.5.2, it demonstrates benefit sharing solutions in transboundary water management to advance operational arrangements for water cooperation at basin and sub-basin levels.
BUILD Fund - Bamboo-UNCDF Initiative for the Least Developed Fund

By supporting the BUILD Fund, Switzerland seeks to increase access to financing by SDG oriented Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to create jobs, improve livelihoods for vulnerable and underserved groups and sustainably manage natural resources. By de-risking investment, this contribution will catalyse funding from the public and private sectors in agribusiness, financial inclusion, green economy and infrastructure initiatives in developing countries, in particular Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Pakistan is experiencing extraordinary monsoon rainfalls in 2022. So far, Pakistan counts 1’300 loss of lives, 30 mio affected and 6.4 mio people in need of humanitarian assistance. The Swiss contribution to Helvetas will help to ease the immediate needs of communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province by focusing on food ratio distribution, non-food items /shelter, health and water/sanitation/hygiene equipment.

With slow progress in recent years, the MENA region scores poorly in terms of closing the gender gap. Amongst the various needs, are women’s political participation and empowerment, coupled with inclusion of marginalised communities, including the LGBTIQA+. The region is also home to a very vibrant, diversified civil society which – despite multiple restrictions – continues advocating for change and reforms, including in the gender realm. Switzerland strives to enable local civil society action to counter marginalisation and foster gender equality, ultimately benefiting the entire population.
