International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF)

A maternal death occurs almost every two minutes. It is estimated that 21 million girls aged 15-19 in low- and middle-income countries become pregnant every year.

Despite this evidence, the global landscape for sexual and reproductive health and rights is under threat. Health systems are fragile and overwhelmed, and access to essential sexual and reproductive health commodities is inconsistent due to supply chain issues and funding gaps. Meanwhile, opposition movements are challenging global norms relating to sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and human rights. Protracted conflicts, displacement, and climate disasters have left millions of people especially women and girls, without access to vital health services. These conditions increase the risk of unintended pregnancies, maternal mortality, and sexual and gender-based violence.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global health services provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Since its creation in 1952, the Federation has delivered comprehensive sexuality education and provided contraceptives, family planning, and maternal care through local organisations in 149 countries worldwide.

SDC has supported IPPF since 1995. This phase puts a stronger focus on youth-centred care, digital health interventions, pandemic preparedness and response and mobilising global support. Switzerland’s support to IPPF reflects its commitment to universal human rights, health equity and gender equality.

• Deliver person-centred care to more people, in more places.
• Advocate for societal and legislative change to ensure universal sexual and reproductive rights.
• Amplify impact by building strategic partnerships, supporting social move-ments and sharing knowledge.
• Replenish and nurture IPPF, enhanc-ing secretariat effectiveness and ex-panding global presence.

Resultados previstos:  

• Provide over 812 million sexual and reproductive health services, 373 million of which will be for young people (14% of whom aged 10-19 years, 82% of whom are female clients).
• Deliver over 1.4 million services via digital health interventions and 131’000 self-care services.
• Avert an estimated 28 million unintended pregnancies.
• Serve 49 million people affected by a humanitarian crisis.

Between 2023-24:

• 452 million sexual and reproductive health services were provided, helping to prevent an estimated 17.3 million unintended pregnancies.
• Over 3.3 million services were delivered via digital health interventions.
• IPPF reached over 26.5 million people in humanitarian settings across 50 countries.
• IPPF achieved 216 successful policy wins in support of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
