COVID-19 Prevention and Resilience

The second wave of the COVID-19 virus has affected Bangladesh more intensely than the initial phase, impeding socioeconomic recovery and reiterating the importance of resilience building. This programme aims at engaging communities to curb the further spread of COVID-19 and enhancing socioeconomic resilience. Drawing upon Switzerland’s long-standing experience in providing rapid response and working on inclusive and sustainable development, it focuses on the disadvantaged segments of the population.

Rural Resilience in Southern Africa / R4 Initiative

The R4 Rural Resilience Initiative for Southern Africa enables smallholder farmers’ adaptation to climate risk through improved resource management, insurance, livelihoods diversification, microcredit and savings. Through R4, Switzerland has become a credible and trusted partner in resilience building and its learnings have fed into policy dialogue. The emphasis of this final phase is on strengthening government and private sector, as well as the gender approach.

Desarrolla respuestas integrales que se orientan a superar los efectos de las emergencias humanitarias y promover alternativas de recuperación temprana, que estén alineados con los objetivos de desarrollo a mediano y largo plazo de las comunidades. Asimismo, las acciones buscan aumentar la resiliencia de las comunidades y contribuir a una paz estable y duradera.

Es implementado por 3 organizaciones internacionales –Alianza por la Solidaridad, Consejo Noruego para Refugiados y Acción Contra el Hambre. Conjuntamente buscan contribuir a soluciones duraderas y a mejorar las condiciones para la resiliencia de comunidades afectadas por el conflicto armado y otras emergencias.

Programa de Acción Integral Contra Minas Fase 1: 2021-2025

Suiza seguirá apoyando los esfuerzos que adelanta Colombia para cumplir con la Convención de Ottawa  y lograr un país libre de minas en 2025, contribuyendo así a la implementación del Acuerdo de Paz y al cumplimiento de la Agenda 2030.

El Programa de Acción Integral Contra Minas de Suiza en Colombia –cuya primera fase se encuentra en ejecución- contribuirá a la protección y recuperación socioeconómica de sobrevivientes y comunidades afectadas por minas antipersonal; en coordinación con la Oficina del Alto Comisionado para la Paz (OACP), otras autoridades y donantes. Además, apuntará a cambios sostenibles mediante el fortalecimiento de la capacidad del Sector (con énfasis en la apropiación nacional y la agenda de localización) para implementar el Plan Estratégico de Acción Contra Minas de Colombia 2020-2025.

Cholera response International Federation of the Red Cross Country Support Platform

Cholera is a recurrent and deadly problem in many countries. Outbreaks of cholera will become more frequent due to climate change and ongoing rapid urbanisation. This proposal aims to support with a financial contribution the International Federation of the Red Cross’s Country Support Platform as an operational arm of the Global Task Force on Cholera Control, This proposal is the first phase of the 10 year program approved in the entry proposal 7F-10727.01.


Making Markets work for the next generation

MarketMakers (MM) introduces missing and strengthens underperforming market functions in the IT and Business/Knowledge-Process-Outsourcing (BPO/KPO) sectors in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). MM induces economic growth in private companies and contributes to create new and better jobs. MM further supports youth employment and entrepreneurship by improving conditions for self-employment, business creation and freelancing. This consolidation phase of MM will ensure further scale and sustainability of interventions.

Promoting Water Stewardship 2030 (Phase Il)

Water stewardship promotes the sustainable and equitable management of freshwater resources among communities, businesses, utilities and investors. SDC supports the Alliance for Water Stewardship, the CDP Water Security Programme and Water Witness International synergistically to advocate for water stewardship particularly in developing countries. SDC is a forerunner in bringing together these key actors to increase outreach and impact.

International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) - core contribution

ICIPE is Africa’s leading insect research institute contributing to plant, animal, human and environmental health. SDC supports ICIPE as its work is highly relevant for the transformation to sustainable food systems, agroecology, healthy nutrition, and the promotion of the ‘One health’ approach. ICIPE’s development path is closely linked to Switzerland through longstanding partnerships with prominent Swiss experts and organisations.

Promotion and respect of human rights, gender equality and the international humanitarian law

Switzerland aims at enhancing prospects for Palestinians to live in dignity, prosperity and peace with Israel, via the respect and promotion of human rights, including gender equality, international humanitarian law and the rule of law by all duty bearers. To this end, SDC supports ten Palestinian and Israeli human rights and humanitarian law organizations active in the oPt, which provide legal aid and protection services to the population and advocate for the respect of the international law. 


Somalia, UNFPA Support to Health, Gender and Data

This programme will work closely with health workers arid health authorities at the state and federal level to improve access and quality of health services. Focus will be on maternal and child health, and sexual and reproductive health for the youth and adults. At the same time, the programme will address gender issues around gender based violence while also working on collecting data on the general population that can be used for evidence based programming within the health sector.

Weather, water and climate services for resilient rural livelihoods and wellbeing in Tajikistan Project (WWCS)

The project is providing efficient weather, water and climate services for the rural population of Tajikistan, especially those highly vulnerable to climate change, and it will contribute to the improvement of their livelihoods and resilience. As a result, people in the project area will use accurate/timely forecasts and improve agricultural productivity, hence guarantee food security, effectively manage irrigation water and reduce vulnerability to hazards.

SIM! - Skills for Youth in Mozambique

The Skills for Youth in Mozambique project builds on Switzerland’s global long standing experience in addressing skills gaps of vulnerable groups. It aims to enhance the (self-) employment opportunities of rural and peri-urban youth, in equal gender proportion, by increasing their access to relevant skills, supporting the transition to the labour market and contributing to policies conducive to their economic inclusion. This project complements interventions in SDC’s portfolio in Mozambique to reduce poverty.
