Contribution to Network for Policy Research, Review and Advice on Education and Training (NORRAG)

Being an international network, NORRAG allows policy dialogue between a diversity of actors. It provides just-in-time knowledge on international education and training policies. It supports capacity development and evidence-based policy making, particularly in the Global South. The period of shaping the post MDGs/EFA agenda (2013-2015) is crucial for recalling the importance of basic education and training. By covering these two themes, NORRAG is a strategic partner for SDC.

Aguasan Programme Honduras

The population in rural areas and small towns of poor regions in Honduras still widely lacks sustainable water and sanitation services. The programme aims at improving living conditions of the population by providing water and sanitation infrastructure. State institutions at national and municipal levels will be strengthened. Community participation in the design, implementation and operation of the water infrastructure will be enhanced, thus contributing to the sustainability of service delivery.

Renforcement de l’élevage pastoral

L’élevage pastoral est l’activité économique dominante et le mode de vie principal des régions sahélo-sahariennes du Tchad. Il est un facteur essentiel de stabilité socioéconomique et de sécurité. Il est confronté à des difficultés croissantes, liées notamment au changement climatique. La DDC entend renforcer l’élevage pastoral dans trois régions au bénéfice direct de 700'000 personnes, par la réalisation de 100 puits pastoraux et 10 mares, le balisage de 500 km de couloirs de transhumance, et par le soutien aux services à l’élevage et aux organisations pastorales

Catastrophic Microinsurance in Central America

Central America is a natural disasters prone region where large vulnerable populations suffer over-proportionately from increasing frequency and impact of climate change events, as traditional disaster coping mechanisms are eroding with growing environmental pressures and rising urbanisation. The public-private development partnership with Swiss Re, FOMIN, and KfW’s Climate Adaptation Fund supports MiCRO in strengthening the disaster resilience of at least 80’000 vulnerable households by 30.9.2016.

Dam rehabilitation of the Reservoir of Rakaca

The dam stability of Rakaca reservoir is deficient at certain places. This problem is aggravated by a drainage system which is not well-functioning. The project partly renews the unstable part of the dam and rehabilitates the drainage system. This reduces the risk of a dam failure with related flood waves for the 5’200 inhabitants of down-stream settlements. Furthermore, supply of drinking water is ensured in the long run for 35’000 inhabitants of the region.

Strengthening of Evaluation Results at IDB and in Latin America (approval of the project by the IDB is pending)

The project will help strengthen the capacity of the independent office of evaluation of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and make a contribution to raising the evaluation capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The project will contribute to better IDB evaluations and improved use of lessons learnt from evaluations to enhance the development effectiveness of programs of the IDB whose overarching goal is poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Flood-control reconstruction of Lázbérc

During the very intense precipitations of May 2010, important structural elements of the Lázbérc reservoir were damaged due to the high run-off. The project renews and rehabilitates the damaged parts of the dam, such as the spillway, surface and underground drainage systems and the downstream canal. Thanks to this, 2’650 inhabitants of down-stream settlements are less threatened by a dam failure.

Greater food security in Chad thanks to a stable seed sector

The grain harvest is doubly important in Chad: farming is people's main livelihood and grain their staple foodstuff. This SDC project is helping Chad establish a reliable seed production sector to ensure that farmers can source affordable, high-quality seed.

Mercados Rurales

En Bolivia, los productores agrícolas de pequeña escala tienen acceso limitado a los mercados y servicios rurales. El proyecto que será desarrollado por Swisscontact y PROFIN (Fundación para el Desarrollo Productivo y Financiero), junto a otras contrapartes tiene el objetivo de incrementar el ingreso de 12.000 unidades de producción (al menos 40% son mujeres) en la región Occidental al vincularlas con mercados y servicios aprovechando políticas favorables e inversiones públicas y privadas.
