Health Facilities Autonomy

Strong management and leadership’s capacity of decision-makers and health managers is central for a successful health reform. The project strengthens the health management system by modernizing continuous skills development and by updating regulations towards a transparent and competency based appointment as well as performance assessment of health managers.

Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC)

Vector-borne neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and malaria are major causes of mortality, morbidity and lack of economic progress for the poorest. Targeting the vector (mosquito) is a main eradication approach. Due to climate change and natural mutation, insecticide resistance is affecting most malaria endemic countries. The Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) is the world-leader Product Development Partnership developing innovative and safe insecticides. SDC strategic support to IVCC complements Switzerland’s global action against malaria.

MASAP - Markets and Seeds Access Project

This initiative promotes the utilization of quality seeds of drought tolerant small grains and legumes through support to farmers’ organisations and enterprises, private sector engagement and evidence-based advocacy. 94’000 smallholders will benefit from increased market participation, higher incomes, and consumption of nutritious diets.  It is implemented by NIRAS with the Community Technology Development Organisation and the Swiss-based Research Institute of Organic Agriculture.

Contribution to the Geneva Water Hub: a springboard in Geneva for the Global Blue Peace movement

The Geneva Water Hub (GWH) is a global centre working towards the prevention and solving of water-related tensions and conflicts, and the promotion of stability through water cooperation. It produces innovative knowledge and provides scientific networking for various actors to be used in decision-making processes. It also offers a space for dialogue and a global observatory for water and peace. The SDC contribution to the GWH aims at spearheading the Blue Peace movement, embodying two recognized competences of Switzerland: water expertise and peace mediation.

Mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on migrants and their families from Central Asia .

Migrants from CA and their families are severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Hundreds of thousands stranded in the RF without income or social protection. Their families are affected too, as they depend on remittances, which do not flow anymore due to the crisis. Contributing to the IOM response plan, Switzerland ensures that migration data gaps are addressed, that the most vulnerable migrants receive assistance, and that migrants’ families get increased access to digital remittances.

Africa Water Investment Support Pro-gramme to Water, Climate, Development and Gender (AIP-WACDEP-G)

Gender equality is essential for the water sector to develop and to contribute effectively to the sustainable development goals. The AIP-WACDEP-G programme implemented by the Global Water Partnership (GWP) aims at inducing systemic change in the management and governance of water resources towards more inclusive and equitable decision-making, practices and norms through a gender-transformative programme in five river basins across Africa.

Promoting good financial governance in Tanzania

The Good Financial Governance (GFG) project supports the public finance system by strengthening the provision of and demand for accountability as well as enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation to increase local development. GFG builds capacity at national and sub-national level, including of civil society and the private sector. The project enhances Swiss support to state institutions that are more efficient and effective, inclusive and increasingly free of corruption.

PACUM – Programme d’Appui aux Communes Urbaines du Mali

Au Mali, la faiblesse des ressources financières et humaines des communes limite leurs capacités à fournir des services de qualité aux populations. La Suisse cofinance une 2ème phase du Programme visant l’amélioration de l’accès aux services de base par le biais de l’augmentation des transferts de ressources de l’Etat  central vers les communes. Le programme contribue au développement économique local, à une urbanisation durable, à une fiscalité locale améliorée et, par conséquent, à plus de stabilité.

PCTL - Programme de Coopération Transfrontalière Locale

En Afrique de l’Ouest, les services de base sont moins accessibles aux populations vivant près des frontières, dont la précarité n’a fait qu’augmenter avec la montée de l’insécurité. En dotant les collectivités frontalières de capacités de dialogue et d’outils de planification, l’UEMOA, avec le soutien de la DDC, fait de la coopération transfrontalière un moteur d’intégration régionale, de paix et de développement économique des zones proches des frontières.

VEGI - Inclusive and sustainable vegetable production and marketing

This exit phase further promotes vegetable production and nutrition in Mongolia, focusing on the most demanded crops with domestically-produced seeds suitable to agro-climatic conditions. It adds an organisational development’s support to the Mongolian Farmers Association for Rural Development and to the Vegetable Seed Reserve Unit to strengthen the sustainability of these critical institutions, based on SDC similar experiences in Africa.

Supporting Civil Society Organizations in Nicaragua

A vibrant and resilient civil society is key to conflict transformation and restoring democracy in Nicaragua. Switzerland thus contributes to protecting the spaces and voices of civil society, and strengthens its capacity to generate reform proposals, promote an informed citizenship and stimulate a culture of peace. It does so by supporting four leading thinks tanks and academic institutes, and by contributing to a multi-donor basket fund designed to foster a civil society response to the socio-political crisis and to provide a platform for aid coordination.

COVID-19 - Prevention and Recovery in the Mekong Region

Vulnerable groups in Laos and Cambodia suffered disproportionally from the Covid-19 socio-economic crisis affecting their income, as well as access to public services and employment. Swiss support will combine institutional strengthening of local actors and provision of public services, skills development, access to credit and support to returning migrants. The long-term experience of Switzerland and trusted relationships with governments add value to the intervention
