Improving seed systems for smallholder farmers‘ food security

Smallholders often use informal seed systems to meet their seed needs. The project increases the access, availability and necessary diversity of adapted seeds to smallholders to reduce their vulnerability to shocks and contribute to their food and nutrition security. In national and global policy dialogues improved and pluralistic seed systems that better respond to the reality and the needs of smallholders are promoted and smallholders will get political recognition for their role in germplasm conservation.

Regional Arts and Culture Project in the South Caucasus

By providing a platform for the development of contemporary art, the Regional Arts and Culture Project promotes intercultural dialogues and exchanges in the South Caucasus. Implemented in collaboration with partners based in Georgia and networks in Armenia and Azerbaijan, the project aims at supporting visual arts (documentary film and photography), building up professional capacities, engaging civil society, and boosting local art scenes with a small grants’ fund.

MEDAC: Strengthening Mediterranean Diplomacy

The Mediterranean region is marked by democratic deficits, environmental and demographic challenges, multiple conflicts and difficult political transformation processes. Switzerland’s longstanding support to the Mediterranean Academy for Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) in Malta aims to strengthen Mediterranean diplomacy in areas such as human rights, good governance, migration issues, and to build trust among young aspiring diplomats from various countries of the region.

Eritrea Vocational Skills Training

The Swiss Development Cooperation will implement in this pilot phase 2 projects in vocational skills training in Eritrea. One project is designed as a contribution to ongoing projects of Don Bosco, the other to a project of the “Schweizerisches Unterstützungskomitee für Eritrea. The objectives of the phase are: (i) enhancing the training of teachers and increasing numbers of students having access to trainings and (ii) building a relation of trust with the Eritrean authorities in order to open a broader policy dialogue between the two countries

Effective Governance to Stabilize Population Growth

The continuing dramatic population growth in Egypt has a significant effect on the prospect of development efforts having tangible results. Implemented by the UNFPA in support to Egyptian civil society, this project, part of a larger 5 year program, aims to contribute to stabilizing population growth by collaborating closely with civil society in a consultative approach to develop awareness-raising media campaigns relevant to young citizens as well as working with official bodies to strengthen the governance mechanisms of the National Population Strategy.

Rangeland Management Project (RAMA)

Poor and landless families depend on rangeland resources for livestock rearing, fuel and fodder collection. A growing population puts increased pressure on limited resources, while decades of conflict and displacement have weakened rangeland management systems. RAMA will improve livelihoods and food security of rural households through empowering the communities to sustainably manage and use their rangeland resources in order to generate equitable benefits.

PAGOD - Programme d’Appui à la Gouvernance Démocratique

Le Niger a amorcé depuis trois décennies un processus démocratique qui est confronté à de nombreuses difficultés tant d’ordre institutionnel (trois interruptions violentes du processus électoral) que liées au comportement des acteurs. Dans l’intérêt d’une stabilité maintenue, la Suisse à travers le PAGOD vise  l’amélioration de la gouvernance démocratique moyennant le renforcement du dispositif électoral, l’implication des femmes et des jeunes dans le processus politique ainsi que la transparence dans la gestion des industries extractives.

ApS: Territory as a space for peace: governance, education for peace and access to basic services and livelihoods as key elements for development and post-conflict in the Pacific Region

SDC will support ApS in improving living conditions of rural and ethnic communities in the Pacific Region affected by the armed conflict and natural events with a rights-based approach. The focus of this phase will be on an exit strategy that links humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and development in four departments that were under the influence of the FARC. It will contribute to peacebuilding efforts in Colombia while addressing humanitarian needs in zones where armed violence has increased and state responses have been weak.

Global RECAP – Promoting healthy diet and physical activity

Switzerland plays a critical role in moving the agenda for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) at national and international level forward. NCDs constitute a major global health challenges today with critical economic consequences. Unhealthy diet and physical inactivity are the main causes of obesity and NCDs. Switzerland aims at strengthening individual and institutional capacity and enabling environments for legal and regulatory measures to promote healthy diet and physical activity.

The main accent of PARIS21’s activities is to stimulate the dialogue between data producers and -users and act as a knowledge hub in the field of statistical capacity building.

Nel Sud-ovest dell'isola di Haiti, alcuni artigiani imparano a costruire abitazioni più stabili e resistenti ai terremoti e agli uragani.

Haiti has been repeatedly devastated by earthquakes and hurricanes in recent years. SDC engineers are now working with those affected to build more stable houses from local materials. Five hundred new homes are to be built by 2021.
