Regional Disaster Risk Reduction & Rapid Response Advisory Asia-Pacific Region 2016

The Asia-Pacific is one of the most natural disaster prone regions in the world. With several ongoing Swiss Cooperation strategies incorporating aspects of DRR, SDC/HA decided to strengthen its DRR and rapid response capacities in this region. Since April 2013, a Regional Disaster Risk Reduction & Rapid Response (RR) Advisor is based in Bangkok, which is the regional hub in terms of DRR and logistically ideally placed for a stand-by presence for rapid response in the region. With evolution of the program and tasks, the Advisor is being supported by an additional Regional DRR Advisor since January 2015. The team is tasked with (1) supporting SDC’s programs in DRR mainstreaming and implementing targeted DRR projects, (2) supporting Swiss Cooperation Offices and Embassies in the field of rapid response and (3) reinforce policy dialogue and networking with key humanitarian actors in the region. The current proposal includes the costs for the Advisors as well as for programmatic activities within the frame of the mandate.

Zürcher Theaterspektakel

The largest theatre and dance festival of Switzerland, the Zürcher Theater Spektakel, is integrating the works of performers and theatre directors from the South and the East into the yearly programmes, competitions and networks. The partnership with SDC allows specific efforts regarding research, translations, pre-production works or co-productions, as to make sure the artists get additional visibility, skills and status in Switzerland, internationally and in their own countries.

Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Resource Center (IHLRC)

SDC Program in the oPt supports Diakonia's International Humanitarian Law Resource Centre (IHLRC) catering to t demand for accurate, objective and principled legal analysis on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the oPt, and makes it accessible to Third States and other parties, whose policies and international aid improve compliance with international law. This intervention is in line with the Swiss Foreign Policy in the Region and SDC Cooperation Strategy 2015-2018 that aims to promote respect for International Law, to ensure protection by all duty-bearers of the rights of the Palestinian population.

Associazione Amici dell'Oasis Togo - Food Aid Swiss Dairy Products (Togo)

Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.

CLIMANDES 2 - Servicios Climáticos con Énfasis en los Andes en Apoyo a las Decisiones

An indispensable cornerstone for achieving effective adaptation and reducing the impacts of climate variability is the availability of efficient and reliable climate services. On the basis of the achievements to date, the second phase of CLIMANDES will continue contributing to the development of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) in the Andean region. Improved climate services will support climate-smart decisions in the key economic agricultural sector, from which the poorest segments of the population and societies at large will be able to benefit.

Switzerland is active in Yemen since 2007 in an increasing difficult humanitarian context. Having closed its Cooperation Office for security reasons Switzerland is continuing its engagement with a new focus on WASH, but after the Saudi Arabia led military intervention in March 2015, more generally on emergency projects. The small actions credit line is (1) a quick responding instrument to activities that address a clear humanitarian need and (2) covers costs of services that contribute to the security and safety of the Swiss personel on mission.

Integrated Security Sector Reform and Violence Prevention in Honduras

Citizen security in Honduras continues to be a priority challenge for the country, with implications for both the living conditions of the population and democratic governability. In order to improve the efficiency and transparency of the security sector, the program brings together various reforms: i) police training and institutional development of the National Police, ii) strengthening criminal investigation and iii) strengthening municipal security. This phase provides continuity and consolidates the results achieved in the first phase.

Valais Solidaire

Valais Solidaire is an umbrella organisation with 34 NGOs in Upper and Lower Valais which provides technical and financial support for the activities of its member organisations. It does not itself support projects in the countries of the South. It is a platform for dialogue that encourages quality, reflection and relevant action, and aims to help its members exchange and capitalise on their experiences. Together with public institutions, associations and companies in the canton of Valais, Valais Solidaire feeds debate on the issues of sustainable development and on North-South partnerships.

Strategic partnerships for water management Water management is one of the main challenges of the 21st century. Thus, the knowledge generation to make decisions and better collaboration among sectors; are the axis of the present and future well-being of humanity. The initiative “El Agua Nos Une” articulates the work of public institutions, business associations and research centers. It aims at: i) scaling corporate water stewardship in Colombia; ii) strengthening knowledge on water uses, particularly in the agricultural sector; iii) contributing to the national water quality and quantity monitoring program; iv) developing an investment scheme in ecosystem services; and; v) facilitating a community of practice on water footprint and corporate water management in Latin America.
