Support to Community Forestry and Fisheries

SDC contributes to a program on Support to Community Forestry and Fisheries implemented in partnership with the Non Timber Forest Products Exchange Program. The program strengthens local communities to secure access to natural resources to improve food security and increase their income. It focuses on Kratié and Stung Treng provinces, which are rich in natural resources but where people suffer from high poverty rates.

Swiss contribution to the Green Climate Fund

Switzerland is committed to supporting developing and transition countries in implementing climate measures. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a new multilateral climate fund, expected to become the main multilateral fund to support climate change action in developing countries, and complementing existing multilateral climate funds. Its mission is to finance low-emission and climate-resilient development programmes with a focus on the most vulnerable countries and communities

Promotion of a Young Professional in the Health Domain

SDC has a growing Health portfolio. A young professional in the health domain was chosen for a three year work experience. After a first year at SDC’s HQ, the young professional spends the next two years gaining work experience in Tanzania, first at the local UNICEF Representation and then at the Swiss Cooperation Office in Dar-es-Salaam.

Strengthening Agricultural Water Efficiency and Productivity on the African and Global Level

Enhancing agricultural water efficiency and productivity is imperative to mitigate water scarcity and to in-crease food security and income of small-scale farmers in the developing world. Implemented through FAO and the Partnership for agricultural water for Africa, the project will establish evidence based policy, good practice and investment in sustainable agricultural water management in Burkina Faso, Uganda, and Morocco as well as globally by linking catalytic activities to policy processes (e.g.to the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme).

Au Niger, la sécurité alimentaire des populations  est dépendante des performances des exploitations familiales agropastorales. Cependant, même lors des années de bonne récolte, les paysans ne parviennent plus à assurer la sécurité alimentaire de leurs propres familles. En cas d’accès facile à l’eau, la culture maraîchère irriguée représente une opportunité à la diversification des activités, la sécurisation des revenus des ménages et à la modernisation des agricultures familiales.

PADIT – Coordinated Platform Programme for the Comprehensive Development of the Territories

The PADIT (Coordinated Platform Programme for the Comprehensive Development of the Territories) project is part of the decentralisation process that is currently underway in Cuba, strengthening capabilities for the management of local development and coordinating the three governmental levels (municipal, provincial, national). PADIT supports the implementation of inclusive social services and inter-municipal production activities as well as links between actors in the public, private and cooperative sectors, thus assisting 500,000 people, with particular focus on women and the young.

Réhabilitation du patrimoine culturel endommagé par le conflit au Nord du Mali

Suite à l’occupation des régions du Nord (Tombouctou, Gao et Kidal et une partie de la région de Mopti) par des groupes armés, le patrimoine culturel est gravement endommagé. Des mausolées sont détruits et une partie des manuscrits pillée, l’identité de ces régions touchée. La Suisse, à la suite de la visite du secrétaire d’Etat à Tombouctou, contribue sur deux ans à la remise en état du patrimoine culturel à travers le projet de l’UNESCO. Cette dynamique fédératrice participe à la revitalisation du tissu social et culturel du pays.

Un’isola di cure in un mare di sfollati

A Minkamann, nel centro del Sudan del Sud, sono operative cinque cliniche mediche che offrono le cure di base agli sfollati vittime dei combattimenti che infiammano il Paese dal mese di dicembre 2013. L’iniziativa di Medici Senza Frontiere Svizzera, sostenuta dalla DSC, è una sfida permanente. Finora circa un milione di sud-sudanesi hanno fuggito le loro abitazioni.

Integrated Program to fight HIV/AIDS

Mozambique still faces a severe generalized HIV epidemic that taxes the fragile health system and has adverse effects on growth as well as development in the country. With the aim to contribute to lessen the impact of HIV/AIDS, this program introduces essential components of an integrated strategy for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Contribution to Darfur Community Peace and Stability Fund (DCPSF)

The DCPSF is a UNDP administered Multi Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) for Darfur and it has been established at the end of 2007 with focus on the root causes of the protracted humanitarian crisis which is mainly due to the multi-facetted conflict situation. The DCPSF funded projects provide humanitarian assistance combined with activities for community stabilisation and peace promotion. The DCPSF projects are part of the overall Humanitarian Work Plan and of the Darfur Development Strategy. The SCO Khartoum since 2007 is member of the DCPSF steering committee and can meaningfully influence the strategic approach of the fund.

Gestione dei rifiuti ospedalieri: Meno infezioni e più tempo per i pazienti

I rifiuti ospedalieri infettivi possono costituire una seria minaccia per i pazienti e per il personale medico-sanitario. È per questo che una gestione sicura e bene organizzata di ogni tipo di rifiuto è indispensabile per garantire un ambiente protetto nelle strutture sanitarie. Applicando un approccio innovativo, a basso costo e sostenibile, il programma per lo smaltimento dei rifiuti sanitari (Health Care Waste Management) in Kirghizistan si sta rivelando molto efficace.
