ASEAN/AHA Centre: Capacity Development

With this contribution, SDC continues to support the institutional and capacity development of ASEAN/AHA Centre to become a regional disaster management hub, thereby strengthening the ASEAN-Switzerland Sectoral Dialogue Partnership in the Practical Cooperation Area on “Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance”, and implementing the Memorandum of Intent agreed on 1st August 2019 between Switzerland and the AHA Centre.

ACF - Mécanisme de Réponse Rapide (RRM) au Burkina Faso

Le Burkina Faso est confronté à une crise humanitaire et sécuritaire sans précédent, obligeant 1.9 million de personnes à fuir leur foyer. Ces déplacés, majoritairement des femmes et des enfants, sont exposés à une grande vulnérabilité. La Suisse contribue à assurer une veille humanitaire à travers un mécanisme de réponse rapide permettant de subvenir aux besoins des populations déplacées en fournissant notamment un accès amélioré à l'eau et l’hygiène, aux articles non alimentaires, à un abri et à la protection.
Technology for Youth and Jobs – Youth Tech Start (YTS)

Switzerland will contribute to the Youth Tech Start Programme of the World Bank aiming to create quality jobs for Palestinian youth in the tech sector and foster socio-economic stability. By upskilling human resources, upgrading infrastructure and improving global market access of Palestinian IT firms, the project strengthens an emerging pillar of the Palestinian economy with prospects to create decent jobs for youth in alignment with SDC Cooperation Programme for the Near East 2021-24.

Inclusive and accountable governance

Switzerland has been supporting inclusive politics in Somalia since 2018. Much has been achieved but additional efforts are needed to address the contentious political settlement issues through an inclusive and accountable process. Through support to the UN, think tanks and the Somali NGO Consortium, Switzerland contributes to enhancing inclusive state-society relations, gradually leading to power and resource sharing agreements that are more responsive to the needs of citizens and contributing to peace and stability.

Appui à l’opérationnalisation de la stratégie nationale de lutte contre les violences faites aux femmes en Tunisie

Le projet propose d’appuyer le ministère de la Femme tunisien (MF) dans l’opérationnalisation de la « stratégie nationale de lutte contre les violences à l’encontre des femmes (SLVF) » par la mise en place d’une coordination institutionnalisée entre acteurs publics et la société civile et l’amélioration du mécanisme d’orientation et prise en charge des victimes. Des activités de réflexions, de concertation, de renforcement de capacités, d’étude, de communication, de benchmark, de plaidoyer et de sensibilisation seront mises en oeuvre par Euromed Rights.

Afghanistan: IFRC Emergency Appeal 2022

In the aftermath of the earthquake of 22 June 2022, the IFRC Secretariat revised its Emergency Appeal up to CHF 90 million, which will enable to scale up its humanitarian assistance especially in the earthquake impacted areas as well as to implement interventions that bridge to development in Afghanistan.

With this contribution, Switzerland helps to ensure that crisis-affected/vulnerable women, men and children receive timely, targeted and life-saving assistance. The number of persons in need of immediate humanitarian relief assistance has been growing rapidly in Myanmar. The Myanmar Humanitarian Fund strives to rapidly respond to those new emergency needs, thanks to a good global overview of the needs and a logic of accessing hard to reach areas and neglected zones.

Sumy Agricultural University Dormitory Renovation

Like other northern towns in the early days of the war, Sumy city was affected by heavy shelling by Russian forces. Student dormitories of Sumy National Agricultural University were badly damaged by a cluster bomb. In order to maintain the University’s functionality as a place of learning of national excellence, this project seeks to renovate 241 student home places in time for the return to learning-in-presence in September 2022.

Restoration of essential WASH infrastructure

Large parts of the Ukrainian territory in the North of the country have been occupied by Russian Forces during several weeks and re-taken in April by the Ukrainian army and made destruction visible and accessible. The direct action will provide specific equipment and repair, as well as coordination capacities for urban and rural Vodakanals in the two oblasts of Chernihiv and Sumy.

WASH and livelihoods contributing to durable solutions for vulnerable, displacement-affected women, men, girls, and boys in Diyala and Kirkuk, Iraq

To facilitate durable solutions for conflict-affected persons in Kirkuk and Diyala, Oxfam in partnership with national NGOs will meet urgent WASH and livelihood needs and at the same time strengthen community resilience and socio-economic development. This will be achieved through an area-based, cross-sectoral intervention that pairs the delivery of WASH and livelihood activities with capacity building, advocacy, and policy work with local authorities and community committees.

Effective Community Engagement and Accountability in Northeast Nigeria

A large proportion of crisis-affected people in Nigeria’s Northeast continue to experience extreme violence, displacement and collapse of livelihoods, therefore largely depending on humanitarian aid. Access to information and two-way communication with humanitarian actors is essential for these populations. With this contribution, the SDC supports humanitarian actors to put the voices and needs of affected populations at the centre of their response to the crisis.

Humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is among the most serious and complex in the world. However, humanitarian access is getting more and more precarious, due to security context deterioration and high politicization. The INGO Forum is committed to overcome or at least limit the impact of the diverse hindrances INGOs are facing in delivering humanitarian, transition and development assistance.
