Swiss Red Cross: Emergency WASH assistance to IDPs

According to the National WASH Cluster there are currently approximately 124’000 IDPs hosted in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. The Swiss Red Cross, together with the ICRC and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society will assist the authorities in Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil oblasts to cover the immediate needs of the IDPS water, sanitation, hygiene and shelter/habitat.


Empowering Municipal Councils

Municipal Councils have, according to the legislation, a very important role to play in local governance. However, councillors often lack the necessary knowledge to fulfil their responsibilities. Through the project, capacities of councillors will be enhanced, citizen participation in decision making promoted and legal framework adjusted, enabling councillors to fulfil their role and to become more independent from the executive branch.


Community based early recovery and resilience in Afghanistan (Pillar II of the Aga Khan Foundation Emergency Appeal)

Trough Aga Khan Foundation emergency appeal for Afghanistan, SDC contributes to the economic and social recovery of 8 mountainous provinces and approx. 3,5 Milo. vulnerable women and men. Together with two other projects of the same organisation which provide humanitarian aid and livelihood and food security to the same communities, Switzerland is among the few donors supporting remote regions.


KENYA - Strengthening Livestock Sector in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Counties

60% of the population in northern Kenya depends on livestock production in an environment of recurrent droughts and natural resource-based conflicts. The programme will contribute to poverty reduction, improved resilience to shocks and enhanced socio-economic inclusion of pastoralist and agro-pastoralist men and women by supporting climate-smart livestock production, improving rangelands management and promoting peaceful coexistence of communities.

Niger Réponse d’urgence à la crise alimentaire 2022

En 2022, le Niger fait face à une crise alimentaire, pastorale et nutritionnelle sans précédent depuis 20 ans. Cette crise est dû à un déficit de production lié à une insuffisance des pluies, une hausse des prix continue et les conséquences de conflits. La Suisse contribue à la réponse dans les régions prioritaires de la DDC à travers une assistance alimentaire, un soutien à la production des ménages ainsi que le renforcement de l’état nutritionnel des enfants qui réduiront les risques de protection.


Ukraine: Emergency Food Assistance

As part of its current emergency response for Ukraine, Switzerland is providing a large shipment of food for the cities of Odesa and Vinnytsia upon the formal request of the two City Councils. The food supplies will be distributed to conflict-affected people in regions suffering from the active military actions, as well as prepositioned as a reserve in the event of a possible full-scale Russian military attack on the city of Odesa.

UNDP / OCHA Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF) 2022

The Sudan Humanitarian Fund is a country-based pooled fund that contributes to saving lives and protecting people in need by strengthening a coordinated and principled humanitarian response in Sudan. The SHF enables humanitarian actors to respond early and fast to the prioritized humanitarian needs set out in the Humanitarian Response Plan and incidences of critical, emergency needs. All projects and interventions the fund supports are in line with the Minimum Operating Standards approved by the Humanitarian Country Team.

Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC): Provision of quality education, learning, and protection assistance for vulnerable Libyans and non-Libyans in eastern and western Libya

The interventions seeks to foster the protective environment for vulnerable Libyans affected by displacement and conflict, and vulnerable non-Libyan populations. It provides legal assistance and improves access to civil documentation and basic services, as well as education across eastern and western Libya, mainly in urban areas and informal settlements.


REACH – Informing effective humanitarian action for the Ukraine response

As Russia’s military attack on Ukraine continues, the gravity of the humanitarian situation and the needs of the conflict-affected population are increasing by the day. In order to address existing needs and gaps and ensure coordination among stakholders for a large-scale humanitarian response in Ukraine, accurate and timely information is required. IMPACT initiatives via its inter-agency initiative REACH conducts assessments and provides information on the needs of the conflict-affected population for an effective response.

Better Aid in Conflict

While international aid addresses humanitarian and development needs, in fragile and conflict affected states it can also do harm by worsening ethnic divisions, fuelling corruption, or aiding military campaigns. This requires a deep understanding of local context to manage these risks. The Better Aid in Conflict Programme (BAC) through the Conflict Resource Facility (CSRF) supports the international aid effort in South Sudan to be ‘conflict sensitive’, minimizing the negative effects (risks) and maximizing the positive effects (opportunities) of all forms of aid, so as to contribute towards peace and stability whenever possible.


NMAC: Modernisation project

The most persistent bottleneck in North Macedonia’s economic development is the low  productivity  of  businesses resulting in their limited capacity to offer decent jobs. Switzerland, through its Modernisation Project  (MP) will  tackle  this  by  supporting  the  development  of  an  ecosystem  for  businesses  to modernize.  Using business  diagnostics  to  identify  productivity  bottlenecks  will  enable  businesses  to  invest  strategically  in modernisation, leading to increased productivity, improved environmental efficiency and decent jobs.

Projet d’appui à la reconstruction de l’habitat avec formation dans le Sud (PARHAFS)

Le projet vise à renforcer la résilience des habitants du sud d'Haïti, région régulièrement frappée par de violents phénomènes naturels - le dernier en date étant le puissant séisme d'août 21. Le projet travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les institutions nationales, les collectivités locales et les associations de femmes afin de renforcer la résilience des communautés, en premier lieu en construisant des maisons avec la participation des propriétaires. En collaboration avec les populations exposées et la protection civile locale, des abris collectifs anticycloniques seront aussi construits, offrant aux personnes une possibilité de protection en cas de conditions météorologiques adverses. L'objectif est de reproduire ce modèle au niveau national.
