Both sides highlighted the strengthening of political, economic and cultural ties in recent years. Bilateral economic relations, strengthened in 2018 by the free trade agreement between EFTA and Georgia, are developing positively, with great potential for further growth. Switzerland's international cooperation in the South Caucasus was also discussed within the framework of the 2022–25 regional programme, which allocates around CHF 34 million to Georgia. Under this programme, Switzerland promotes sustainable economic growth, good governance and climate projects. It also focuses on peacebuilding measures, in particular improving the living conditions of people affected by the conflicts in Georgia. Since 2009, Switzerland's good offices have represented Georgia's diplomatic interests in Russia and vice versa, for which the Georgian delegation expressed its gratitude. The Swiss delegation in turn expressed its gratitude for the trust that Georgia has placed in Switzerland in this regard.
The delegations also discussed areas where relations might be still further strengthened, including extending cooperation on energy and the implementation of the migration partnership concluded in 2022.
In addition, Mr Cassis and Mr Darchiashvili spoke about the impact of Russia's war against Ukraine on the situation in the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, as well as on the European security architecture. Cooperation within international organisations such as the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the UN was also on the agenda.
