“In 2016, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of partnership and cooperation between Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over the years, Switzerland has invested around 560 Million CHF (over 1 Billion BAM) to contribute to a safe and sound future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even though Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, we welcome your candidacy. We fully support Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path and the reforms undertaken in order to make the application a success”, stressed newly appointed Ambassador of Switzerland to Bosnia and Herzegovina Andrea Rauber Saxer during the presentation of her credentials to Bakir Izetbegovic, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Together with various partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Government of Switzerland has realized many projects all over the country. A special emphasis in the Swiss cooperation program is placed on youth employment. “Young women and men in Bosnia and Herzegovina must have more and better opportunities and perspectives to build their lives in this country. They should be able to pursue their dreams and become actively engaged in the country’s development. To this end, finding a decent job is crucial“, said Ambassador Rauber Saxer.

She also emphasized that there are about 60’000 citizens with Bosnian-Herzegovinian roots living in Switzerland and that the Swiss Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina will endeavor to strengthen the cooperation with this important diaspora. The Embassy will also continue to reinforce the ties between the two countries throughout exchanges on the political systems as well as interaction on science, innovation, and arts.

Ambassador Rauber Saxer expressed her gratefulness to President Izetbegovic for the warm welcome and conveyed him the best wishes of the President of the Swiss Confederation and the Swiss Government as well as from the people of Switzerland. On his part, President Izetbegovic extended a sincere welcome to the new Ambassador of Switzerland, wishing her a successful mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
