Political officer (deadline 30.11.2022)

This job aims to support the Embassy’s Diplomatic team in delivering Embassy priorities on political and economic developments at national, regional and AU level.

Main duties and competences that come along with this position:

  • information collection, analysis and networking regarding all fields of policies and developments, including on the AU;
  • elaboration of briefing papers and reports, preparing input and support the organisation of Swiss delegations visiting Ethiopia and the AU;
  • working to strengthen the link between Swiss international development work and policy dialogues.
  • contribution to support Business Promotion activities of the Embassy (Ethiopia and Djibouti);
  •  contribution to the organization of events, activities and public communication on various topics and engagements of the Embassy.

The position will be based at the Embassy of Switzerland in Old Airport, Addis Ababa.

Requirements for Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor-Degree in political science, social sciences, law, economics, or equivalent.
  • 5 years or more of professional experience as a Political Officer or similar positions preferably for an embassy, international organization, think tank or similar;
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills, organizational talent, interest for diplomatic work and Swiss foreign policy, excellent networker;
  • Excellent English orally and written, Amharic (other local languages are a plus);
  • Highest degree of loyalty and reliability;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team;
  • Demonstrated communication skills;
  • High individual autonomy, a high sense of personal responsibility, and willingness to learn and to embrace change.
  • Good computer skills including good practical experience with the MS Office Software Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer or any other browser commonly used.

Construction Project Coordinator (deadline 15.11.2022)

This job position of Construction Project Coordinator aims for an individual who can play a key role in the construction project and engineering team. 

Duties and competences that come along with this position:

  • Representing the owner in all works and processes
  • Secure the link and cooperation between the "owner" (Swiss federal office of construction) and the general contractor, the project management company, other involved companies and the local authorities in the construction project of the Swiss Embassy in Ethiopia;
  • Representing the owner on site. Constant presence on the construction site and covering important meetings between the multiple key players;
  • Supervising the progress and reporting on a regular basis to the owner about the construction status, finances, up-dating of critical success factors, etc.;
  • Assist the general contractor in cooperation with the owner and other Swiss federal services in international logistic, import, customs and visa questions;
  • Responsibility for controlling and documentation, support in authorization processes, extension of important networks, establishment and maintenance of relationships:
  • Support the general contractor in the authorization processes, responsible for the controlling and for the documentation in contracts, authorization, finance, tax reimbursement and meeting protocols;
  • Maintaining useful relations to the involved companies, related authorities and homologues of other Embassies with similar construction projects;
  • Identification of temporary locations, building management and move to / from temporary accommodations:
  • Support in identifying temporary accommodation (residence and office space);
  • Support in the modifications / adaptation of the temporary locations according to instructions by HQ;
  • Organise and implement the move to the temporary locations and after construction of the new buildings/compound, organise and implement the move into the newly constructed compound;
  •  Special tasks, additional duties in relation to the construction project, if required and according to instructions

The position will be based at the Embassy of Switzerland in Old Airport, Addis Ababa.

Direct superior: Head of Operations

Requirements for Skills and Experience:

  • Education and training in engineering, architecture, construction site management or alike
  • Excellent skills and at least a 5 years in-depth experience in project management in the field of construction, architecture, etc.
  • Experience in controlling and quality control
  • Knowledge of the usual Office Products Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet Explorer is required. Familiarity with other Programs such as Project is of advantage
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Joined-up thinking, perseverance and anticipation are essential
  • You are highly motivated, proactive, integer and loyal and you know to work independently as well as in a team
  • Mother tongue and/or excellent command ("B2 / Cl" upper intermediate or advanced) of Amharic, English and at least of one of the official languages of Switzerland.
  • professional experience in Switzerland is an advantage
