Ambassador Josef Renggli presented his letters of credentials to the Chairman of the Presidency Council Muhammad Mnefi during a ceremony held at the Radisson Hotel in Tripoli.

On 20 December 2021, Ambassador Josef Renggli presented his letters of credentials to the Chairman of the Presidency Council Muhammad Mnefi during a ceremony held at the Radisson Hotel in Tripoli. On this occasion, Ambassador Renggli underlined the quality of the bilateral relations between the two countries and indicated that his nomination would allow for intensification of official contacts in the future. He also reiterated the continuous support of Switzerland for the democratic transition in Libya both as a host country for the different tracks of the peace process and as co-chair of the working group for international humanitarian law and human rights of the Berlin process.

The nomination of Ambassador Renggli as Ambassador to Libya (resident in Tunis) was decided by the Swiss Federal Council in September 2021. It is the first time that Switzerland appoints a new Ambassador to Libya since the Swiss Embassy in Tripoli temporarily closed in July 2014.
