There are about 400 Swiss companies in Mexico, which generate around 50 thousand direct jobs. Since 2023, Mexico has been Switzerland’s most important commercial partner in Latin America, and Switzerland is an important investor in Mexico, thus, investment protection is of great importance for the Swiss economy.
Both countries have held excellent diplomatic relations for more than 80 years. One of the major achievements at the commercial level was the signing of the free trade agreement between Mexico and the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland— in 2000, which led to an increase in trade.
