Last foreword from the Head of Cooperation

Local news, 21.07.2024

Dear Readers,

After completing 20 years in Mongolia, the time has come for SDC to say goodbye.

Having reached this milestone, the first pages of a new chapter of the 60-year-old diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Switzerland are being turned.

I’m taking this opportunity to pause and reflect on the whirlwind of activities that marked the last few months.

SDC has been actively engaged in Mongolia, making significant contributions by exchanging our expertise, experience, and knowledge with countless partners and collaborators.

As we prepare to part ways, our hearts are filled with a mix of nostalgia and gratitude.

I am proud to share that this journey has been filled with joint efforts, rewarding teamwork, and shared visions and determination.

Each of you has played a crucial role along the way, and we have achieved what once seemed impossible. Together, we have proven that there are no limits to what we can accomplish when we join forces. Here's to the power of partnership and the bright future we continue to build together. Our results would not have been possible without you, dear readers.

Therefore, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to all of you. You have been instrumental in facilitating our progress. Your guidance, belief in our mission, and commitment to our shared goals have been invaluable in realizing our collective aspirations.

Thank you so much!

May and June were a testament to our whole team’s dedication and hard work. During these months, we had high-level visits from Switzerland.

One highlight was celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. Mongol Post issued a beautiful commemorative stamp to mark the occasion. The stamp represents the deep cultural connections between our countries, showcasing our mutual love for music and animals. You can find a small flute on the stamp in tribute to a collaborative project with The HU.

But that’s not all. The Bank of Mongolia printed a commemorative silver banknote for the 60th anniversary, designed in collaboration with SDC. This limited edition note celebrates peace, featuring a poem by Member of Parliament D. Tsogtbaatar and Edelweiss, a protected symbol of peace in both our countries. Similarly, a “friendship” cheese was created from Mongolian milk and Swiss know-how.

During the National Naadam Festival in July, we hosted wrestlers from Switzerland in Mongolia. They competed in a friendly tournament with members of the Mongolian Wrestling Association in Baganuur District. These projects were quite a lot of work but yielded beautiful results, including fun moments. The different events and products highlight our partnership and the enduring bond between our two nations.

In this last edition of “Insight”, the SDC newsletter, you will find stories about some of our visits, events, and products. I hope they will inspire you.

On a personal note, my time in Mongolia is also ending, and I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey of the past four years. With many fond memories, I bid farewell to this country that has become my second home.

Leaving isn't easy, especially when I think about all the lasting experiences and insightful impressions that have shaped my time here. From the breath-taking landscapes to the vibrant culture, each moment has left an indelible mark on my heart.

But most of all, the people I've met here have made this journey truly inspiring and unforgettable.

To my new friends, you welcomed me with open arms and filled my life with joy. I will cherish the memories we've created together and carry them with me wherever I go.

As I prepare to return to Switzerland, I must let you know that I'll be leaving a piece of my heart behind. I will miss you all dearly.

On behalf of my SDC team, including Khostsetseg Nyamaa, Zolzaya Lkhagvasuren, Tansagmaa Tsog, Bolortsetseg Jagar, Geser Makhbal, Dariimaa Shaalai, and Battsetseg Borkhuu, Bayanbaatar Banzragch, we would like to wish you all the best for the future and good health to you and your loved ones. Let’s hope our paths cross again someday.

Thank you!
