20 March is the International Day of the Francophonie. In the entire world, and in North Macedonia, the month of March is therefore an opportunity to celebrate the French language, shared by many countries including Switzerland and over 300 million people around the world.
On the occasion of the month of the Francophonie, the Swiss Embassy in North Macedonia, together with the French Institute in Skopje, organizes a series of events in Skopje, Bitola, Tetovo, and Prilep. These events will be dedicated to the character and the work of the 20th century Swiss travel writer, picture editor and photographer Nicolas Bouvier, who once traveled through Prilep in the 1960s and wrote beautiful pages on his impressions of the city.
The celebration of the Francophonie month starts on March 6 with the promotion of the translation into Macedonian of the novel “Petite” written by the young Swiss author and adventurer Sarah Gysler at the French Institute in Skopje. “Petite” has achieved great international success so far. During her stay, Sarah Gysler will meet and talk with the public and French language students from Skopje, Prilep, Bitola, and Tetovo.
