The Geneva Conventions at 75

Today, 12 August, marks the 75th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions – the “Laws of War”, the one set of rules we all agree on. The four Geneva Conventions of 1949, the two Additional Protocols of 1977 and the Additional Protocol of 2005 form the core of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), setting out international law in regards to the conduct of war, especially on the treatment of prisoners and civilians.


Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2025-26

Embassy celebrates successful completion of the OYE project

With support from the Swiss and Danish Embassies, SNV Tanzania implemented the second phase of the Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) project in Singida and Morogoro Regions between 2021 and 2024. The project aimed at improving the livelihoods of over 4,000 out-of-school youth aged 18 to 30 living in rural and peri urban areas. OYE brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors who had the potential to build capacities and foster relationships with the youth.

Switzerland celebrates ‘Les Jours De La Francophonie’

The Embassy of Switzerland, jointly with other Francophone Embassies in Tanzania, is celebrating the ‘The Days of Francophonie’ between 06 and 20 March this year. To mark the occasion, the Embassy hosted an official reception at the Swiss Residence on 13 March. A Swiss band, Sankrox, will perform as part of the festivities on 20 March at the Alliance Francaise in Dar es Salaam.


SDC Assistant Director-General visits Tanzania

Switzerland provides an additional USD 18 million to support Social Safety Net programme

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Switzerland through the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania signed a financing agreement for additional support to Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) worth USD 18 Million (TZS 44 billion).  The Agreement was signed in Dar es Salaam by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Tanzania Didier Chassot and Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance.
