UN Global Compact Core Contribution 2024-2025

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the largest corporate responsibility initiative worldwide, and one of the most successful UN-Private Sector partnerships. Switzerland has been a major supporter of the UNGC from its inception in 2000 and, with this ninth phase core contribution, is supporting the implementation of the UNGC’s 2021-2025 strategy, with a focus on its activities in Africa.
Contributions 2024 to ICRC Country Programs in protracted crises

The ICRC is the most important partner of SDC in the humanitarian field. About one third of the SDC Humanitarian Aid budget is allocated to the ICRC. The contribution of CHF 56 million to ICRC country programs reflects Switzerland’s interest to have a strong ICRC throughout the world and to contribute to alleviate the suffering of people affected by conflicts.

SDC funding to ICRC most underfunded operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises.

Sudan crisis, Egypt Emergency Response, UNHCR Regional Refugee Response Plan, November 2024 – October 2025

This contribution aims at supporting the Regional Refugee Response Plan and Government of Egypt’s combined efforts to respond to the arrival of refugees in the aftermath of the outbreak of conflict on the 15.4.2023 in Sudan. UNHCR’s emergency response focuses on the identification and reception of the most vulnerable new arrivals at prioritized points of entry, with the provision of life-saving support and specialized protection services
Additional Allocation of SDC Funding (Europe – Middle East Division) in 2024 to ICRC Operations in Lebanon

SDC allocates additional funding to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to address urgent needs arising from the humanitarian impact of escalating violence in Lebanon. This support, drawn from SDC's emergency reserve funds, enables the ICRC to provide immediate protection and life-saving assistance to those affected by the crisis.

En soutenant l’élaboration des textes d’application et l’appui au processus d’adoption desdits textes, la Suisse contribue aux réformes diverses permettant d’accélérer les transformations souhaitées pour améliorer les systèmes alimentaires.

Acceptabilité humanitaire au Burkina Faso

La crise humanitaire au Burkina Faso continue de s’aggraver, les populations souffrent des violations de leurs droits. Le contexte opérationnel est tendu, l’accès humanitaire et la protection de l’espace humanitaire sont remis en question. Le projet vise à préserver les principes humanitaires et l’accès aux populations vulnérables en renforçant la coordination civilo-militaire, l’accès, l’engagement communautaire et la redevabilité envers les communautés affectées.

Tchad IOM Contribution Sudan crisis 2023

This contribution aims at supporting IOM’s response to the needs of Chadian returnees having fled Sudan. IOM’s emergency response supports the returnees’ households through a nexus approach, which combines emergency humanitarian assistance (shelter, NFIs, etc,) and livelihood support to reduce their dependency on humanitarian assistance, therefore contributing to local and more sustainable development.
Passive Cooling for a Low Carbon Built Environment (BeCool)

BeCool aims to improve access to cooling through passive measures in buildings in urban India to reduce the impact of heatwaves on human health and productivity, while decreasing energy requirements, costs and greenhouse gas emissions linked to active cooling. The mitigation and adaptation aspects will be addressed through heat mapping, availability of financing mechanisms and capacity building to strengthen implementation in collaboration with the government and private sector.
Vocational Training and Employment Support Services (VTESS)

The exit phase of VTESS will further promote an inclusive vocational skills development (VSD) system in Lao PDR. Within the current context of economic crisis, early school leavers from disadvantaged backgrounds will thereby benefit from improved and labour market relevant training, employment support services and a sustainable funding model for VSD.
Adaptation at Altitude

Mountain societies and ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to climate change and targeted adaptation measures are needed to increase their resilience. Building on SDC’s extensive expertise and experience as a leading player in the field, the programme will inform decision makers and practitioners about climate change impacts and adaptation solutions in mountains and support concerted cross-border collaboration in major mountain regions worldwide to advance adaptation policy, planning and implementation.
SODEFIKA – Soutien au développement des filières arachide, sésame et karité

L’arachide, le sésame et le karité présentent des potentiels de diversification de la production agricole durable et de création d’emplois pour les exploitations familiales (surtout pour les femmes et les jeunes). En soutenant le développement de ces filières à travers l’approche de développement des systèmes de marché, la Suisse contribuera à la création de richesses, à la réduction de la vulnérabilité des ménages ruraux et des inégalités hommes et femmes.
