PlantwisePlus is a global programme that is supporting countries and farmers to predict, prevent and prepare themselves for plant health threats in a changing climate. This will allow farmers to reduce their crop losses and produce more and safer food using agroecological and climate-smart practices that safeguard human health and biodiversity. The programme is implemented by CABI, a leading intergovernmental research and development organization in plant health, with research facilities in Switzerland.

2024 Additional Allocation to WFP Country Strategic Plan, Yemen

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts and climate change, Switzerland supports annually operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. Nearly a decade of conflict in Yemen has created one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises with a staggering 18.2 million people in dire need of assistance. With additional funding, SDC reinforces WFP’s emergency response to deliver essential food to conflict-affected families and to provide nutritional support to women and children.

WFP Country Strategic Plan 2024 Mozambique: Allocation to Drought

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland supports annually operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. WFP has designed a response plan to target drought-affected and most food-insecure people in Mozambique to provide immediate life-saving food and assistance as well as school meals.

Improved targeting methodologies for reaching IDPs in conflict-affected crises with cash transfers

GiveDirectly, an organization specializing in direct cash transfers using innovative mobile technology, is providing immediate financial aid to 3,500 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, through mobile money transfers, while developing a proof of concept for an emergency response program aimed at creating a comprehensive rapid recovery solution for current and future crises.


Global, Climate Action Accelerator, Accelerating Decarbonisation in the Humanitarian Sector: Aiming for 50% Emission Reduction by 2030

The Climate Action Accelerator is a non-profit initiative that develops tools and solutions to support the humanitarian sector to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the global climate goals. By engaging systemic actors to support the adoption and promotion of ambitious approaches to emissions reduction, while technically supporting humanitarian organizations to accelerate the climate transformation of the humanitarian sector.

Contribution to the ICRC and IFRC National Society Investment Alliance (NSIA)

In order to realize the Movement’s full potential, the ICRC and the IFRC have committed to work together to increase the investment in Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies (NS) in fragile contexts. A joint fund, the National Society Investment Alliance (NSIA), invests in capacity-strengthening, resource mobilization and organizational development. It provides flexible, multi-year funding to support the development of NS to become stronger local humanitarian actors for their communities. The NSIA contributes to the cooperation between the ICRC and the IFRC.

Contribution 2023 to the Peer-2-Peer (P2P) Support Project

SDC’s objective in supporting the Peer-2-Peer (P2P) Support Project is to bolster up Humanitarian Coordinators (HCs) and Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) efforts in strengthening the collective humanitarian response in field operations. P2P is the only interagency support mechanism that exists to support HCs and HCTs in the delivery of principled, quality, timely, and predictable collective humanitarian action through peer support.

SUD, OCHA: Sudan Humanitarian Fund 2024

The SHF is a country-based pooled fund that contributes to saving lives and protecting people in need by strengthening a coordinated and principled humanitarian response. It enables humanitarian actors to respond early and fast to humanitarian needs set out in the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) and to critical emergencies. All interventions are in line with the Minimum Operating Standards approved by the Humanitarian Country Team.


Programme d’Education Alternative des Jeunes (PEAJ) Phase 3

Plus de 50% d’enfants de moins de 15 ans, majoritairement des filles, sont hors école au Niger. La Suisse soutient, depuis 2015, le droit à une éducation de qualité inclusive pour ce public à travers une offre d’éducation alternative, adoptée par l’Etat nigérien en avril 2022. La troisième phase du programme mettra l’accent sur la mise à l’échelle du modèle et les stratégies de rétention des élèves défavorisés, via la responsabilisation des acteurs locaux et l’adaptation du milieu scolaire.

SDC Contribution to the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (hereafter the Movement) is among the most important partner of Switzerland in the implementation of its humanitarian priorities as defined in the Swiss International Cooperation Strategy. As the highest deliberative body, the Conference is of great importance for the Movement’s work, as well as for the promotion of international humanitarian law (IHL). The support for the Conference, the Movement as well as the strengthening of IHL constitutes strong priorities for Switzerland.
