Switzerland aims to reduce barriers to sustainable solutions for children and adolescents through education programming in Jordan. With the project planned initiatives, capacity strengthening, evidence-based research and training, the school community will be mobilized for positive action within their schools and the improved knowledge and practices will increase the overall quality of teaching and learning, which in turn will improve retention rates in formal schools.

Tanzania is investing heavily in reforming sustainable health financing and leveraging integrated digital solutions to advance Universal Health Coverage and ensure that all Tanzanians have access to any quality health services they need, when and where they need, without financial hardship. Together with other development partners, Switzerland uses this momentum to support the government in establishing a Universal Health Insurance and the Center for Digital Health.

World Food programme (WFP) Contribution 2023 to support WFP’s operations in Ukraine

WFP works in Ukraine to support populations affected by the war. The programmes are designed to restore and stabilise economic activity and food systems, as well as sustain and strengthen institutional services and safety nets to reduce vulnerability in the longer term. They restore, stabilize, sustain and recover by: 1) meeting people’s urgent needs with food and cash 2) emphasising a local approach that supports the economy 3) supporting institutions and safety nets that protect Ukrainians 4) restoring productive assets and capacity.

Improving the National Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) capacities of Mongolia

The intervention seeks to improve the national emergency response capacities of Mongolia in the area of Urban Search And Rescue (USAR). In Mongolia, USAR services are delivered by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Capacity building will be pursued through a selection of measures with special focus on targeted training in USAR techniques on the newly built training facilities, as well as support for organizational and operational conceptualization.
Promoting Sustainable Agricultural Market Systems (PROMAS)

Agriculture is the main source of income for 70% of the population and is an important means to improve people’s livelihood. The sector suffers from low productivity and an unfavourable business environment. Thanks to better functioning markets and capacity building, smallholder farmers will improve their income and resilience through enhanced productivity, improved access to markets, climate adaptation, financial services and private sector development in northern Mozambique.

More health workers with the right skills are needed to achieve the SDGs, particularly in low income countries. Switzerland contributes to a joint WHO, ILO and OECD program providing catalytic support to governments, social partners and other key stakeholders to develop, finance and implement national health workforce strategies and investment plans. This will improve the supply and employment of health workers, maximise their performance, create decent jobs and accelerate progress towards UHC.

Since 2019, the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland and Liechtenstein (GCNSL) has reinforced its capabilities and member basis, thus strengthening the implementation of responsible and sustainable business conduct within the highly internationalised Swiss private sector. The next phase will focus on scaling up impact and broaden partnerships with local networks in emerging and developing countries and fragile contexts to expand the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland supports annually in 28 SDC priority countries operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. It funds indistinctively Country Strategic Plans, incorporating all WFP programmes or projects, based on affected population needs and potential synergies with other local partners, especially national governments and civil society.

Fondation Kantha Bopha – Dr med. Beat Richner

Switzerland has supported the Kanta Bopha Hospitals since 1995. Today they have become of systemic importance in the Cambodian health system, and provide comprehensive pediatric services to 8 out of 10 severely sick children in Cambodia. In this last phase, Switzerland will support the Hospitals setting up a system to sustainably access health care reimbursements through social health insurance. In parallel the core financial contribution is phased out.

Support to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD

More than 100 countries are affected by desertification, and 42% of the world’s poor live in these areas, posing a serious challenge to sustainable development. The United Nations’ Convention to Combat Desertification works at avoiding, reducing, and reversing desertification, linking sustainable land management to social and economic development. Switzerland, Party to the Convention, provides a core and an additional voluntary financing to specifically contribute to common priorities.
