Support to the Internal Displacement Solutions Fund (IDSF)

By the end of 2022, 71.1 million people were living in internal displacement worldwide, a 20 per cent increase in a year and the highest number ever recorded (IDMC 2023). Switzerland is actively supporting the implementation of the UN Secretary General’s Action Agenda on solutions to internal displacement with its different instruments. Supporting the newly established Internal Displacement Solutions Fund (IDSF) represents a game-changer in supporting joint UN country level solutions to internal displacement. 


Open source Health Insurance Management Information System (OpenIMIS)

Lack or inexistence of social protection mechanisms implies that ill and injured people have no choice but to pay out-of-pocket for health services. Since 2011, the SDC and the German development cooperation have been promoting the use of an open-source software for digital management of social protection schemes. This tool is currently implemented in 10 countries for health, work and social insurance and is targeted to reach 5 additional during this phase.


South Sudan, UNFPA: Strengthening Prevention of And Response to Gender based Violence (GBV) in South Sudan

The proposed funding ensures the continuation of lifesaving GBV prevention and response services, including Clinical Management of Rape (CMR), Psychosocial Support Services (PSS), Legal Aid, Protection, as well as referrals to livelihood opportunities in two (2) established GBV One Stop Centres (OSCs) and a Safe House (SH) in Wau Western Bahr El Ghazal (WBG) and Kuajok, Warrap State. An outreach office and two mobile teams will be established in one remote area for referrals. Existing community based-groups capacities will be further enhanced. UNFPA will pursue advocacy on key policy reforms related to GBV.

Mozambique Humanitarian Aid UNICEF WASH Preparedness 2023

Through UNICEF country program support, Switzerland contributes to integrated climate resilience, disaster risk reduction and preparedness in the WASH sector for communities at risk of cyclonic events. The program focuses on communities facing the triple risk of lacking access to WASH while being exposed to climate-related and health-related hazards. In addition, UNICEF program will respond to specific gaps in the emergency response at national and sub-national levels and prepare the WASH sector for a joint and systematic approach to climate change. 


Culture Programme Mozambique

01.09.2023 - 31.08.2027

Switzerland will promote a more professional cultural sector and give emerging young artists the opportunity to improve their skills and expand their national and international networks. By working with 1 cultural centre in Maputo and 2 cultural institutions in the conflict-ridden province of Cabo Delgado, art and culture will also be used as a vector for social cohesion and peace, including the much-needed exchange between the south and north of Mozambique.

Integrated assistance to the vulnerable population affected by migration in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru

The humanitarian situation in Venezuela continues to be critical, as well as the migration crisis of Venezuelans in the region, with more than 7 million Venezuelans abroad. High rates of cross-border mobility are registered with pendular migrants, travellers, returnees and unaccompanied minors. In this project, CISP will provide comprehensive assistance to vulnerable people in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and also Peru with a special focus on protection, WASH, health and livelihoods.

Cameroun Sécurisation de l’hôpital Helvétique de Mada

Depuis 2014, l’Extrême-Nord du Cameroun connaît un conflit armé, qui oppose les pays du bassin du lac Tchad aux Groupes Armés Non-Etatiques. L'hôpital Helvétique de Mada est un des rares infrastructures qui est encore capable s'offrir des services médicaux dans cette région. Le projet pour la sécurisation permet à l'hôpital de continuer son travail, même dans des conditions difficiles.

Accelerating Rwanda's Nutrition Outcomes

The recent Rwanda Demographic Health Survey showed only a slight decline of stunting from 38% to 33%, not fulfilling the target of achieving 19% by 2024. As a result, a special national-wide programme "Accelerating Rwanda's Nutrition Outcome" is needed to get closer to the set targets. In parallel, the process of developing the new Strategic Plan for Agriculture (PSTA-5) and the new National Transformation Strategy (NST-2) offers us a unique opportunity to influence their development by a world leading organisation.


Contribution to the Geneva Water Hub (2023-2027)

Globally, access to fresh water resources are dwindling due to growing demand, increasing pollution and climate change. The Geneva Water Hub, co-hosted by the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute, is an international center of competence for transboundary water resources management. Through research, education, advocacy and mediation, the Hub addresses water insecurity in water scarce regions, helps to prevent water conflicts and contributes to peace, stability and sustainable development. 


Programme d’Appui à la Promotion de l'Entreprenariat Agricole (PAPEA)

Au Burkina Faso, la hausse de la consommation alimentaire de la population se heurte à la faible performance de production des entreprises agricoles. Pour y pallier, la DDC renforce leurs capacités d’investissement ainsi que leur environnement économique afin d’impulser des dynamiques de développement des marchés, créateurs d’emplois et de richesses pour les plus pauvres. La démarche répond aux exigences d’une croissance durable en s’attaquant aux causes de fragilité multidimensionnelle.

Humanitarian assistance to people affected by the protracted crisis in Venezuela

Despite a moderate recovery in some economic indicators during 2022, the Venezuelan economy continues to contract during 2023. Meanwhile, there is no improvement in the structural causes of the humanitarian crisis. As a result, the needs of the most vulnerable are still high. Therefore, Caritas aims to facilitate access on health, nutrition, food security and livelihoods, for vulnerable families in eight states according to the Guidance Note for Venezuela 2022-2024.

Greece: SET Forst fires, August 2023

29.08.2023 - 30.09.2023

Due to the devastating forest fires in several parts of Greece and resulting needs for international response the Greek authorities accepted the offer for assistance submitted by Switzerland. Based on the agreement between SDC/H and the Swiss Armed Forces (ADRIANA) a joint deployment (SDC/Swiss Armed Forces) with two Superpuma helicopters (Swiss Air Force) and respective staff members is planned to support the Greek responders to limit damage of nature and infrastructure by dropping water on the burning areas and in particular to protect and support the affected population. A similar deployment took place in August 2021.
