ICVA, Core Contribution 2023 – 2025: more principled and effective humanitarian action for affected populations

By supporting the International Council for Voluntary Agencies (ICVA), Switzerland contributes to strengthening dialogue and partnerships among diverse humanitarian actors. Targeting NGOs, United Nations (UN) agencies, UN Member States and intergovernmental agencies, ICVA advocates on key issues such as principled humanitarian action, forced migration, climate change and localisation. ICVA enhances recognition of the vital role of NGOs in principled humanitarian action. 


Contribution to Forum of Federations (FoF)

The Forum of Federations brings experts in federalized and decentralized governance together with civil servants, politicians and civil society to support practical solutions to governance challenges in established and emerging federal countries. The Forum promotes inclusive democracy and conflict resolution through power sharing and decentralized governance arrangements. As a founding member, Switzerland contributes with its unique expertise and experience in federal State.

Yemen - WFP Additional H-Cash Allocation 2023

Switzerland supports operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) in 28 SDC priority countries. It funds Country Strategy Plans, incorporating all WFP programmes/projects, based on affected population needs. In Yemen, despite multiple challenges, the food and nutrition response combined with the positive effects of the truce, led to the country taking a step back from the edge of famine. But the outlook remains dire, not least because of increasingly fragmented and contentious operating environment, and funding shortfalls.


JPOs4UN Programme 2023-2028

The JPOs4UN programme aims at increasing the presence of Switzerland in the UN by augmenting the number of Swiss nationals working in SDC priority UN organizations. Switzerland directly funds partner humanitarian UN organizations to hire 11 Swiss young professionals on a three-year Junior Programme Officer contract; the Swiss foundation CINFO provides administrative support and career counselling. Swiss nationals add to a qualified and diverse UN workforce to implement the Agenda 2030.

Yearly Contribution to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) 2023

Established in 2005 as the UN’s global emergency response fund, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) – managed and administered by OCHA – pools contributions from funding partners around the world into a single global fund to enable more timely and reliable humanitarian assistance to those affected by natural disasters and armed conflicts. The CERF is one of the fastest and most effective ways to support rapid humanitarian response. It is also a lifeline for those caught up in the world's most neglected, underfunded and long-lasting crises.

Empowering vulnerable youth and women in fragile situation to foster community Resilience and cohesion through peaceful co-existence and promotion of livelihoods initiatives

The goal of the project is to foster conditions for peace and promote community resilience in the Equatorias region of South Sudan through a combination of activities aiming at (1) building and supporting a workforce of peacemakers, (2) providing trainings in conflict resolution, (3) fostering social cohesion and conflict prevention through locally held community dialogues, (4) promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods, notably by supporting women- and youth-led small income generating businesses, and (5) promoting sports as a platform for fostering peace and social cohesion among the youth. This intervention is coherent with the humanitarian, peace and development nexus (triple nexus) and contributes to durable solutions for IDPs and returnees.

ACAPS (Assessment Capacities Project), NRC Contribution 2023 - 2025

ACAPS aims to improve humanitarian response by providing high quality, independent and multisectoral analysis aiming at enabling crisis responders to better understand and consequently better address the needs of the affected population, as well as strengthening the assessment ecosystem. ACAPS is a Geneva based organisation and leading provider of high-quality needs analysis with a special focus on severity and forward-looking analysis.


Enhancing Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Investments (3EI)

“Enhancing Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Investments” is an initiative co-implemented by the Cambodian government’s entity Khmer Enterprise and Swisscontact, with financial and technical support from Switzerland (SDC and University of St. Gallen), Korea, and a Japanese foundation. The project aims to strengthen small and growing businesses in their mission to foster sustainable development through innovations and investments by the private sector.

Humanitarian Exchange and Research Centre – HERE-Geneva

HERE is a Geneva-based independent think-tank aiming to address the gap between policy and humanitarian practice. It contributes to improving collective performance and increasing the effectiveness and quality of humanitarian action through real-time evaluations on the ground, policy papers, practice reviews and through influencing behaviour change.

Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) in the Central African Republic (CAR). Emergency assistance to people affected by shocks.

The protracted crisis in the Central African Republic (conflicts, violence, climatic and epidemiological shocks) persists and affects over 50% of the population. Coordinated by UNICEF with the support of UNOCHA, the RRM provides humanitarian monitoring and initiates emergency actions following a human or natural shock. Switzerland's contribution makes it possible to respond effectively and efficiently to urgent humanitarian needs, in its commitment to Good Humanitarian Donorship.

Mine Clearance

01.01.2023 - 31.12.2025

Switzerland’s contribution to HALO Trust allows to clear 5.4 km2 of heavily mined land in the northwest provinces of Cambodia, benefitting 9,800 poor households by providing safe access to land and water sources. In its last phase, it supports the Cambodian government in achieving its goal to becoming a mine-free country by 2025. SDC coordinates with the Cambodia Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority to monitor community land use and ownership after mine clearance.

CashCap Contribution 2023-2024

CashCap is a specialized roster of experienced experts who, along with strong technical cash and markets background, bring soft diplomacy and coordination skills. CashCap’s experts are deployed to inter-agency roles involving coordination, technical support, capacity building and advocacy. Their approach is host-agency neutral, impartial, and grounded in best practice and operational evidence.
