Scaling up improved sanitation - Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF)

The Geneva based UN Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF) raises, catalyzes and invests resources to accelerate delivery of sustainable sanitation, hygiene and menstrual health and hygiene services, especially for women and girls in least developed countries with the highest burden and lowest ability to respond. This SDC contribution to the multi-donor SHF supports 6 African countries in implementing their national sanitation plans to achieve SDG 6.2. for millions of poor people also contributing to the SDGs in health, nutrition, education, gender equity, economic growth and climate resilience.


Support to Parliament and Civic Education (PACEP)

The Albanian Parliament will improve its performance both, operationally and politically. Elections will be managed more transparently and efficiently. The system of checks and balances between the parliament, the government and independent institutions will be strengthened. Citizens will contribute and benefit from increased representation in parliament, responsible law making and stronger oversight.

Financing of World Bank EDO Advisors

Switzerland leads a constituency of nine countries in the Executive Board of the World Bank Group, giving it a high level of influence in governance and decision-making. To maintain and strengthen the permanent Board seat, Switzerland finances three non-Swiss advisors to the Swiss Executive Director’s Office. Based on a four-year co-financing arrangement between SDC and SECO, SDC assumes the cost for 2023-2024.


Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement (Phase 3)

Nutrition relevant policies, strategies, and sound programs are crucial to eliminate the rising hunger and malnutrition. The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement brings together governments, civil society, donors, UN agencies, researchers and private sector to support countries to combat all forms of malnutrition leaving no one behind. SDC, aligned with Switzerland’s 2030 SDG Strategy to transform food systems and champion better nutrition, contributes by strengthening civil society engagement and by fostering a food systems approach to deliver nutritious, sustainable and healthy diets in an equitable manner.

Allocation of SDC Funding (MENA Europe Division) in 2023 to ICRC Operations in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine

SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises.

2023 Annual Allocation to WFP Country Strategic Plans

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland supports annually in 28 SDC priority countries operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. It funds indistinctively Country Strategic Plans, incorporating all WFP programmes or projects, based on affected population needs and potential synergies with other local partners, especially national governments and civil society.

Programme Contribution to the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR)

ICHR, is dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights in Palestinian controlled territories. It focuses on strengthening the legislative, institutional and legal environment and on monitoring, investigating and handling complaints on human rights put forward by Palestinian citizens. It further aims at promoting accountability measures and consolidating human rights culture. Switzerland’s support to ICHR contributes to the democratic state building agenda, to peace building and dialogue towards intra-Palestinian reconciliation, promotion of rule of law and sustainable development, therefore contributing to stability in the region. 


Women in Politics (WIP)

The project aims at contributing to increased gender equality in Kosovo by supporting key pathways for women to enter and remain in politics and governance leadership - at both national and municipal levels - and engage in gender responsive policies. SDC is joining - through delegated cooperation - a comprehensive programme of USAID ("Inclusive and Accountable Representation Activity ") by contributing to one of its three interrelated and complementary programme components.


Blue Peace Middle East 2.0 (BPME 2.0)

In one of the most water-scarce regions of the world, transboundary cooperation is an imperative to overcome the multiple regionally shared challenges to water security, which is a major obstacle to prosperity and a potential cause for conflicts. Switzerland’s diplomatic initiative BPME 2.0 aims to provide support at multiple levels, to promote water cooperation across borders, sectors and generations to foster peace, stability and sustainable socio-economic development in the ME. 


Opportunities through Technologies and Innovation in Moldova (OPTIM) - Phase 2

The project intends to foster the economic resilience and development in Moldova by adopting a market system development approach, a flexible and agile modality that strengthens the capacity of partners with systemic footprint in key sectors. By facilitating a better access to market, technologies, funding, skills and a more conducive business environment for companies, the project will contribute to create better jobs and additional income for its beneficiaries.

Social Justice for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians (SORAE)

01.01.2023 - 31.12.2025

The second phase of SORAE will continue to support Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians (R/A/E) on achieving equal human and economic rights. A range of cross sectorial interventions on fighting discrimination, improving housing, increasing school enrolment and employment will improve R/A/E’s socio-economic inclusion – with special focus on children, youth and women.
