UNRWA is one of Switzerland’s key multilateral partners in the Middle East, due to its important contributions towards stability and peace in the region and its role in providing services and humanitarian assistance to people in need. Under its Programme Budget, UNRWA ensures universal access to quality primary health care and to basic education to 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. It also provides targeted relief and social services to vulnerable refugees.
SIRA - Somalia Information and Resilience Building Action

Rangeland degradation, drought and other effects of climate change are further exacerbating food insecurity in Somalia. Through the present intervention the communities’ resilience is increased by enhancing climate sustainable livestock production, fodder productivity and public service delivery leading to improved household incomes. Switzerland aims to support communities’ capacities to cope with climatic shocks and as such contributes to stability and peace in Somalia.
Résilience Communautaire Transfrontière en Afrique de l’Ouest

Avec l’expansion d’actes d’extrémisme violent en Afrique de l’Ouest, l’accroissement d’actions de proximité dans les espaces transfrontaliers (abritant 80% des conflits) devient un impératif. La Suisse engagée depuis 2015 dans le développement transfrontalier au Sahel, a acquis de l’expérience dans l’apport de solutions appropriées. La présente intervention vise à renforcer cet engagement dans le couloir sahélo-côtier Burkina-Faso, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo et Bénin.

JOR Medair: Social protection program towards improving resilience of refugees and vulnerable Jordanians

The project initiates a third phase during which Medair Jordan will continue to reach new households in Amman, Irbid and Mafraq with case management and cash for protection, including emergency cash assistance, while focusing on livelihoods solutions to improve the resilience of refugees and vulnerable Jordanians. The project will also build and strengthen the institutional capacities of local actors to provide social protection services through coordination and experience and knowledge exchange.

Increasing access to patented medicines with the pharmaceutical sector

A patent protects medical products but may limit their access in low-resource settings. Medicines Patent Pool negotiates voluntary licenses with patent holders, including Swiss companies, that it grants to generic manufacturers to reduce prices. SDC support will enable people in low- and middle-income countries to access quality-assured, appropriate, affordable, safe, and effective medical products to fight non-communicable diseases, COVID-19, and antimicrobial resistance.
Contribution to implementation of SCTM Strategic Plan

This contribution will support the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) to implement its cross-sectoral strategic plan, promoting decentralization, good governance and local governance reforms and assisting the implementation of the Serbian Government’s Local Government Reform Programme. SCTM will improve capacities of local governments (LG) to act efficiently, accountably, in the best interest of citizens, and defend LG interests at the central level.

Contribution 2023 to the Peer2-Peer Support Project

SDC’s objective in supporting the Peer-2-Peer (P2P) Support Project is to bolster up Humanitarian Coordinators (HCs) and Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) efforts in strengthening the collective humanitarian response in field operations. P2P is the only interagency support mechanism that exists to support HCs and HCTs in the delivery of principled, quality, timely, and predictable collective humanitarian action through peer support.
GAIN - Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

Climate change, Covid-19, conflicts are reversing progress on malnutrition, underlining the growing urgency to transform food systems to tackle human development and planetary needs. Switzerland supports GAIN’s activities with governments, businesses, civil society and partners to ensure consistent access to affordable, safe, nutritious and sustainable food for healthier diets, in particular for the most vulnerable, through more inclusive policies and regulations, effective markets and innovative financing.
IDEA - Contribution to the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance is the only inter governmental organization specialized in democracy support and thus key for realizing Switzerland’s foreign policy objective of promoting democracy. Core Voluntary Contribution to the World Health Organisation (WHO)

WHO is the leading and coordinating agency on health within the United Nations system. Switzerland supports its mandate to ensure the highest attainable level of health and weII-being for all (SDG3). WHO’s normative function is its key strategic comparative advantage in global health governance. Its rights-based approach to health is also critical for advancing health equity. The policy dialogue jointly carried out with WHO supports leveraging health activities in Swiss cooperation priority countries.

ICRC Operations Appeals 2023: Additional Allocation to ICRC Operations Azerbaijan

SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises.

South Sudan and Chad World Food Programme (WFP) - Additional Contribution 2023 (NHF)

Against historic levels of food security due to conflicts, climate change and COVID-19, Switzerland supports annually in 28 SDC priority countries operations of the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide humanitarian and development assistance. It funds indistinctively Country Strategic Plans, incorporating all WFP programmes or projects, based on affected population needs and potential synergies with other local partners, especially national governments and civil society.
