Smart & Precise Prognostic Hydrology for Innovative Risk Management and Resource Use Efficiency in Central Asia (SAPPHIRE Central Asia)

The main goal of the project is to improve hydro-meteorological services provision to key stakeholders in Central Asia. This will be achieved through targeted capacity building of National Hydro-Meteorological Services agencies to valorize gauging station data by integrating a digital assistant solution to improve forecast accuracy. This is instrumental for disaster warning and decision-making across water-dependent sectors of the Central Asian economies.

Building Knowledge and Awareness on sustainable Sanitation Solutions

The project aims to improve public health by enhancing population’s access to safe sanitation services. The project will document and disseminate knowledge on innovative decentralized sanitation systems among concerned stakeholders for adequate integration of alternative sanitation models in state strategies, programmes and plans. The intervention will support Tajikistan in the implementation of the Water Sector Reform.

Global Survivors Fund

01.12.2022 - 31.12.2024

Survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) are often deeply traumatized and stigmatized. According to international law, they have a right to remedy to help them rebuild their life. The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) combines advocacy for reparations for CRSV survivors at national and global level with the implementation of interim reparative measures. Co-funding this initiative supports Switzerland’s strong Women, Peace and Security profile in the Security Council.

Contribution to the Climate Action Accelerator (CAA) - Accelerating the decarbonisation and adaptation of the international aid sector to climate and environmental challenges

The Climate Action Accelerator is a non-profit initiative that develops tools and solutions to support organisations of the aid, health and education sectors in reducing their carbon footprint. By the End of 2023, around 40 organisations (with a focus on Europe, Africa and South Asia) shall be engaged, and committed to oeuvre towards the decarbonisation of their own, and partner organisations’ operations. Reducing GHG emissions of organisations’ own operations is an important contribution to the race towards Net-Zero.

Systèmes d'approvisionnement en eau et WASH à Toukra 2 et Koundoul N’Djamena

En réponse à la situation d'urgence après les inondations au Tchad, la Suisse a mis à disposition du UNHCR 300 tentes familiales. L'action présente permet à approvisionner les familles sinistrées et des quartiers hôtes circonstants (en tout 20'000) avec quatre forages solaires. Additionnellement, des groupes locaux sont sensibilisés dans l'hygiène et 20 membres de comités d’eau sont formés dans la gestion et à l’administration transparente des systèmes d’approvisionnement en eau.

KARIA : Appui à un environnement redevable, protecteur et sûr pour les populations affectées par les conflits

Le Niger fait face à une crise de protection qui touche les populations civiles et engendre des déplacements forcés dans les zones frontalières du Mali, Burkina Faso et Nigéria. Dans le cadre du programme KARIA, la Suisse vise à renforcer les services locaux de santé mentale et de protection pour les personnes vulnérables et leur résilience aux menaces de protection. A travers une approche nexus, KARIA contribue à améliorer l’environnement de protection et la redevabilité des autorités et renforcer la cohésion sociale.


Contribution to non-state local governance actors

The project is a contribution to and a strategic partnership with the Coalition of three major non-state actors in the promotion and strengthening of local governance in Kyrgyzstan. They will be financially and technically capacitated and empowered to play their role in advancing local democracy and local governance for the benefit of people in Kyrgyzstan. The partnership builds on over 10 years of Swiss support in local governance in Kyrgyzstan as well as on ownership by the government.

Strengthening Access to Services for Ukrainian Refugees through Legal Aid

As a right and a precondition for the enjoyment of all human rights, legal aid promotes peaceful and inclusive societies. The project enhances the access to legal services for Ukrainian refugees through a regional approach building local capacities and enhancing cross-border collaboration. The project opens an avenue for Switzerland to contribute to durable solutions and to channel advocacy messages at national and regional level on the protection of the rights of forcibly displaced populations.

Appui aux ménages en situation d’ultra-pauvreté à Belle-Anse, Sud-Est Haiti

15.11.2022 - 30.06.2024

Près de 10% de la population haïtienne vit en ultra-pauvreté. Avec sa contribution au programme Chemen lavi Miyò (CLM), la Suisse répond aux besoins humanitaires et de relèvement en appuyant 200 ménages dans le Sud-Est pour les faire sortir de l’ultra-pauvreté. L’approche capitalise sur l’expérience de la Suisse et ses partenaires en Haïti et vise à réduire les inégalités, l’insécurité alimentaire et la vulnérabilité aux catastrophes naturelles.


Swiss contribution to KfW Regional Challenge Fund for the Western Balkans

Switzerland is investing in vocational education and training as well as in labour-market insertion of unemployed youth through all of its bilateral cooperation programs in the Western Balkans. This contribution will allow Switzerland to join forces with Germany in efficiently raising the quality and labor-market orientation of VET offers across the region, while at the same time fostering sustainable partnerships between VET providers and companies for work-based learning.  


Fostering Active Civic Engagement (FACE)

15.11.2022 - 31.12.2026

Switzerland will extend its support to the Council of Europe and the United Nations Population Fund in Moldova to successfully combine formal and non-formal civic education activities with the aim to increase the participation of youth in decision-making and community affairs: quality civic education is key to promote democratic values, to stimulate civic engagement and to contribute to social cohesion. Zurich University of Teacher Education's expertise will be tapped to strengthen teaching competences for democratic culture.

Women Supporting Women: Enhance Leadership and Resilience of Crisis Affected Women Through Community-Based Initiatives

The project promotes empowerment of women leadership across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. In line with Swiss priorities and expertise, the project enhances women’s role and participation in the delivery of humanitarian assistance and promoting peacebuilding initiatives. Thereby, it capacitates women leaders and women civil society groups to actively contribute to peaceful coexistence, dialogue and community development and mitigation of protection risks.
