Health research for policy making: The Ifakara Health Institute (IHI)

This project aims to improve evidence based policy making in Tanzania. It will allow the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and partners to better measure the impact of public spending in the health sector, and improve the use of evidence in policy making, for more effective health results. SDC will further strengthen IHI, the only private and independent health research institute, in developing and sustaining district-based data collection.

Integration of Environmental Education in Education System of North Macedonia

The Environmental Education programme relates strongly to all other SDC and SECO water projects in North Macedonia, since it contributes to awareness raising and increased interest for better and healthier environment. The aim of the programme is to increase Switzerland's presence within the UN system. This measure also meets the more general aim of strengthening the influence and quality of Switzerland's political dialogue with the target agencies. The JPO programme will eventually serve to intensify this political dialogue and increase Switzerland's capacity to monitor the work of agencies through direct contact with the JPOs recruited through this programme.

En Myanmar, los pueblos situados cerca de la frontera con Tailandia han vivido más de seis décadas de conflictos. Geográficamente aislados y a veces bajo el control de antiguos grupos étnicos armados, estos pueblos se encuentran fuera del alcance de las autoridades gubernamentales. Sus habitantes deben conformarse con infraestructuras precarias. La COSUDE trabaja, junto con las comunidades afectadas y otras contrapartes, para restablecer los servicios básicos, apostando por los jóvenes de la región.

Many Syrians have had to leave their homes on very short notice, rendering them in high need of basic domestic items, shelter assistance and protection. This project supports the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cash assistance projects that ensure the effectiveness of humanitarian aid as people prioritize their own needs. Further, this project fosters protection activities that promote peaceful consistence between the Syrian refugees’ community and the Jordanian community.

A substantial decline in the security situation in Syria has led to an ever increasing outflow of refugees into the neighboring countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. Host governments are increasingly under pressure to provide life-saving humanitarian aid while experienced humanitarian actors are required to increase scale and capability to respond. This proposed project seeks to fill the gaps found in humanitarian assistance to those affected by the Syrian crisis living outside the UNHCR refugee camps in Jordan.

Support to Strengthening Governance and Policy Dialogue in Health Sector in Moldova

To advance the Moldova health sector reform agenda, a strong stewardship/governance is needed, which requires adequate capacities to carry out this function effectively. The project is a joint effort of SDC –WHO, which will support the elaboration of a research agenda, conducting policy studies, updating regulations, participatory development of a performance monitoring system, institutional capacity building and mapping the health sector investment. The proposed intervention contributes to setting a favourable environment for health reforms and provides opportunities for sustainable implementation of SDC health portfolio projects.
