The program of IAMANEH Switzerland addresses women and children in Western Africa and the Western Balkans in order to secure their access to quality primary health services, to grant safe motherhood and birth, to offer protection and safety from violence and health damaging practices and to allow informed choice with regard to family planning and prevention. Advocacy work contributes to the improvement of frame conditions for health and the securing of a sustainable health and social protection system in these regions.

“People know, people discuss, people implement and people supervise” is a Vietnamese government slogan to promote grassroots democracy. The government of Vietnam has recognized the rights and roles of citizens in local planning and decision-making. But do people have a say in decisions that affect them? Not yet. This project aims to contribute to the implementation of this slogan by facilitating a process through which communities “self-define” their problems, “self-set” their priorities, “self-develop” and “self-implement” their solutions, co-financed by SDC and communities.

Sloping Land Management

Starting in 2004, the Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection (MoLEP) in partnership with SDC introduced to Sloping Land User Groups (SLUGs) new Sloping Land Management approaches and practices (SLM), such as participatory land use planning, reforestation, conservation farming and environmental measurements with the aim to improve the livelihoods of the rural population.

Stabilisation des communautés tchadiennes à forte concentration de migrants de retour de Libye

La crise libyenne a provoqué dès 2011 le retour dans leur pays de 130'000 Tchadiens, occasionnant d’importantes tensions sociales et une aggravation des conditions de vie déjà très précaires dans les zones d’accueil. Le projet mis en œuvre par l’OIM a pour objectif de faciliter la stabilisation dans les trois régions du nord du Tchad (Borkou, Ennedi et Tibesti) de 50 communautés (125'000 bénéficiaires) à haute concentration de migrants de retour de Libye, par la planification et la mise en œuvre conjointe de micro projets locaux par les migrants et leurs communautés d’accueil.

WASH Programme 2nd Phase

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) is directly linked to people’s health, their livelihoods and to a sustainable development in general. The activities fight effectively diarrhea and therefore have positive effects on the nutritional and health condition of the targeted population. Starting in February 2012, SDC and the Ministry of City Management (MoCM) launched a joint WASH programme in rural and urban areas. The goal of this programme is to improve the living conditions of the targeted population through better access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities. The DPRK institutions at national and provincial level are benefiting from technical support in regard to water quality and adequate techniques provided by the SDC WASH Implementation Unit.
