In view of large humanitarian needs in the country, humanitarian air transport service for aid community is crucial; WFP UNHAS is the only viable transport option available to reach remote areas safely. UNHAS facilitates and secures the majority of travel of SDC humanitarian aid’s agents and cooperation programs in Chad, in order to enable them to monitor partners and programs. To maintain this service, UNHAS requires the support of technical and financial partners.

In Bosnia e Erzegovina il persistere degli stereotipi maschilisti rappresenta un vero e proprio problema sociale. Molti adolescenti hanno comportamenti violenti nei confronti delle donne e tendono a trascurare la propria salute. Con la promozione di una serie di iniziative educative, la DSC vuole avviare un’evoluzione nella mentalità e nello stile di vita dei giovani.

Dal 2009, la Svizzera ha avviato un nuovo tipo di cooperazione che unisce alla promozione della pace la gestione sostenibile delle risorse idriche in Medio Oriente. Questa regione del mondo sta infatti vivendo una crisi di vasta portata caratterizzata dal deterioramento e dal progressivo prosciugamento di numerose risorse d'acqua di uso collettivo. Da un rapporto indipendente pubblicato nel 2011 è emerso che una gestione sostenibile delle risorse idriche transterritoriali sul piano politico potrebbe non soltanto evitare calamità naturali e tragedie umane ma anche fungere da strumento importante per la promozione della pace.

The capacity of subnational institutions at provincial, district and municipality levels is instrumental to peace and development of the Afghan people. The Afghanistan Subnational Governance Programme (ASGP) of the UNDP improves local government institutions’ capacity to govern and strengthens the oversight capacities of elected provincial councils on government performance and service delivery.

Supporting United Nations operational system reform through the implementation of the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR)

Local Economic Development in the Golfo de Fonseca Region

The project aims a promoting inclusive economic development in the Golfo de Fonseca Region, which is part of the dry tropical zone of Central America, particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The single phase Project, co-financed with IDB’s Multilateral Investment Fund, allows influencing larger IDB private sector operations and hence up-scaling. It also helps shaping SDC’s planned programs in local economic and value chain development.

UNICEF Strengthening peace building and Recovery Results for Children and Women - SDC Global Institutions Support

One billion children live in areas affected by conflict and high levels of violence. The changing nature of conflicts and the fragility of states are a big challenge for recovery and peace-building. The operational presence of UNICEF before, during and after conflicts makes it a key stakeholder with competence in transition from emergency and recovery to development. This project strengthens the rights of children in fragile and post crisis situations by building up systematic capacities and learning in conflict sensitivity, peace building and recovery in fragile contexts.

UNHCR Provision of winterized assistance to IDPs in Syria [BSL]

The deteriorating security situation in Syria has led to the internal displacement of 9.3 million individuals seeking refuge with host families, in public buildings, schools or in open space. For the winter period the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has developed a winterization strategy to address the basic humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs). With the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), UNHCR will be able to provide winterized non-food items (NFIs) to families facing harsh winter conditions.

UNICEF Syr. WASH assistance to IDPs and host communities in Hassaka City

The conflict has been ruining the lives and Iivelihoods of millions. In addition, lt has disrupted power supplies, affecting in turn water services, forcing responsible technical staff of the water authorities to regularly run maintenance and operations of infrastructure of basic services. Safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and hygiene conditions have been negatively impacted, especially in the crowded collective shelters. This Intervention comes as a response to the assessment of Hassakeh City that indicates shortage in water supply as weIl as access to adequate hygiene and sanitation services for Internally displaced persons ( IDPs) and host communities (HC).
