UNHCR: Contribution to Lebanon SGBV activities 2013 [PRO]

In response to the high prevalence of violence among Syrian displaced women and girls in Lebanon, which result in various psychosocial symptoms impacting especially women and their family members, the need for more focus and more comprehensive Sexual- and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) services, including shelter services, were identified. The United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR has been addressing these issues and striving to cope with the continuous emerging protection needs of especially women and young people.

The Back to School Campaign is jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), UNHCR and UNICEF. lt is a holistic package of support tor vulnerable Syrian refugees and Lebanese host community children. The response aims at getting vulnerable children enrolled and retained in public schools through support to students during the scholastic year and by working with wider community-based structures to address risk factors of school dropout.

Advocating for Agro-Biodiversity

This project supports small-scale farmer and farmer support organizations in the region in their efforts to foster democratic debate over legal frameworks having an impact on food security, and more specifically: agro-biodiversity , farmers’ rights to use, save and exchange seeds, and the diverse forms of knowledge farmers develop and maintain. This project also helps farmers in defining the role they want to see State institutions play in protecting all of the above.

Global Malaria Technical & Training Support Package (GlobMal)

SDC contribution to Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute aims to enhance technical support and training for global malaria control by contributing knowledge and experience to strategically important institutions and initiatives, such as Roll Back Malaria and World Health Organization, and guarantee a medium-term investment of Swiss commitment to malaria control beyond the Millennium Development Goals. The contribution to develop a global capacity strengthening plan responds to a need of coordinated action.

Special School and Centre of Cultural Integration Lodygowice

The project will improve the premises of the special school for handicapped children in Lodygowice, by renovating and upgrading the existing premises as well as expanding them and providing some specialist equipment.
 

Multilateral Contribution to the Adaptation Fund (AF)

The Adaptation Fund (AF) was created by the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol to finance concrete adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. The AF features innovative resource mobilization and access strategies and is laying the foundation for larger-scale results-based adaptation financing through the Green Climate Fund (as of 2015). The contribution is in line with consensus decisions by the UNFCCC.

DRC Contribution – Mixed Migration; Horn of Africa and Yemen

The aim of this intervention is to prevent violations against and increase protection for people in mixed migration flows in the HoA and Yemen region. It is a contribution to the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) with focus on two specific partial actions: I) supports activities on protection needs and awareness raising in Puntland, II) strengthens information and knowledge sharing on a regional level in the HoA.

Strengthening Human-Rights Based Policing in Bulgaria

The project aims at improving the professional capacities of Bulgarian police officers in respecting human rights while executing their duties. Strengthening Youth Protection and Juvenile Delinquency Prevention in Bulgaria

The project aims at reducing the number of cases of youth violence and juvenile delinquency in Bulgaria through the reinforcement of the capacities of the Bulgarian actors including law enforcement, teachers, youth groups etc. The project is part of the thematic fund security in Bulgaria. Southwestern Carpathian Wilderness and Sustainable Development Initiatives

The project was aimd to contribute significantly to the preservation of the Southwestern Carpathians as Europe’s premier wilderness area, demonstrating opportunities for conservation and management of wilderness areas including the implementation of EU legislation and support of local and regional development. The project was part of the thematic fund civil society participation in Romania.  

Natura 2000 and Rural Development in Romania

The project was aimed at improving the implementation of the EU Natura 2000 and national protected area network and was promoting sustainable rural development in Romania by demonstrating local development opportunities related to protected areas, better integration of protected area and natural resource management in infrastructure planning and regional development and improving long-term financial support for protected area and natural resource management. The project was part of the thematic fund civil society participation in Romania.
