Waterdrops in the Sahel: Irrigation for family farms

Situated at the edge of the Sahel, Burkina Faso is critically exposed to effects of climate change. Smallholder farmers do the bulk of their work during the rainy season from June to September. The SDC helps them increase to their yields providing irrigation systems for their market gardens and suitable seed, fertilisers and agricultural equipment.

The bilateral Framework Agreement foresees the possibility of utilizing approximately 1.5% of the total allocation to cover certain management costs in the beneficiary country. The technical assistance will support the submission of qualitative projects, transparent processes and a good visibility of the Swiss Contribution in Bulgaria.

Albania is driven by a development and EU integration agenda reflected in its National Strategy for Development and Integration 2007-2013. A functional state with effective structures at all levels and effective governance practices remains still a challenge. The disparity between rich and poor is increasing and the risk of poverty is real, especially in the underserved areas and for vulnerable groups of the population. The reform of the health system still needs many improvements at govemance, management and care levels; standards are set, but implementation is weak. Equally, a modern health workforce must continuously upgrade its knowledge and skills. To ensure it, Albania is creating a Continuing Medical Education (OME) System.
