Increasing fire safety in Estonia

The project aims at increasing the fire safety of 24-hour social welfare and health care institutions, which are over 200 nursing homes and hospitals. To achieve this goal the fire safety requirements for these buildings are prepared, manuals drafted and the staff of these establishments is trained.

Screening and utilisation of liquid wastes

The project will develop new treatment methods for liquid waste from the pharmaceutical and fine chemistry industry, in order to contribute to the improvement of water quality and to better utilise the waste for, e.g. denitrification in biological wastewater treatment or for the production of bio-gas.

Automated gait Orthosis: procurement of Lokomat

A Lokomat Pediatric automated gait orthosis was provided to the Tallinn’s Children Hospital for the rehabilitation of children and adults with mobility impairment.

Sia i contadini sedentari sia gli allevatori nomadi del Niger devono poter provvedere autonomamente al proprio sostentamento e disporre di un reddito regolare. Per raggiungere tale obiettivo, la DSC è impegnata dal 1998 in un programma di sostegno al settore dell'allevamento («Programme d’appui au secteur de l’élévage» (PASEL). Insieme a partner locali, la DSC si adopera in particolare per favorire una convivenza pacifica tra agricoltori e allevatori in un contesto fragile. In passato, i contrasti tra gli interessi e le esigenze dei due gruppi sono stati all'origine di conflitti anche violenti.

Arruolamento di donne nel corpo di polizia per lottare contro l’impunità

La DSC sostiene l’arruolamento di donne nella polizia nazionale afghana, andando ciò a beneficio della professionalità e dell’integrità delle forze dell’ordine. Nella popolazione si osserva che le donne vittime di violenza acquisiscono maggiore fiducia quando hanno la possibilità di esporre denuncia dinanzi a poliziotte disposte ad ascoltarle.

Support to St. Francis Hospital in Ifakara

SDC plans to support health services and management improvement, and address the role of the hospital as a place for practical training and clinical research. The project would focus primarily on improving health care and look for synergies between St. Francis Hospital, the Ifakara Health Institute and the Tanzanian Training Centre for International Health, and the Swiss institutions that support them (SDC, Novartis Foundation, SwissTPH and Solidarmed). During the entry proposal period, SDC and partners will have an opportunity to explore which organisational option would best serve these objectives. Refurbishment of the pediatric ward will also be undertaken and equipment provided.

Climate Change Adaptation in China: Monitoring and Early Warning of Glacier Lake Outburst Floods in the Area of the Yarkant River

With Climate Change, melting ice from glaciers is heightening the risk for Glacier Lake Outburst Floods, and changing river flow patterns. The present Sino-Swiss cooperation aims at improving the management of high flood risk of Yarkant River, strengthen monitoring capacities of the glaciers in the upper catchment area, and support Water Risk Management at highest official level in China. High emphasis is put on exchanging knowledge with international networks.
