The Hindu Kush Himalayas are highly vulnerable to climate disasters. Multi-hazard risk models and early warning systems are pivotal for de-risking public and private investments and protection of communities. In the first project phase, Switzerland provides technical assistance to the Government of Nepal, local private companies and academia to build required institutional capacities in close collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

The Public Private Development Partnership to Improved Professional Education in Ukraine aims at supporting Ukraine in introducing European standards in vocational education and training (VET). This shall lead to improved skills and knowledge of graduates in construction sector professions and therefore directly contribute to their employability. The project is expected to have a visible impact on the training providers as well as on the students by facilitating their access to employment and income. This initiative is formed as an indirect Public-Private Development Partnership (PPDP).

MiRiDew - Migrant Rights and Decent Work

Remittances sent home by over 4 million migrant workers have significantly contributed to the economic development of Nepal. The proposed project will enhance the capacities of the Government of Nepal and strengthen mechanisms to better protect the rights of workers abroad. There will be a special focus on women’s need and the adverse effects of climate change exacerbating the vulnerability of migrants. The project capitalises on Switzerland’s longstanding engagement on labour migration in Nepal.

This project Digital Innovation for Growth and Inclusion in Nepal, promotes digital innovation that is essential for an increased access of women and men, including from discriminated groups and beyond the capital, to affordable basic services. Digital innovation will also lead to market expansion as well as the creation of jobs and income.

This programme takes forward Switzerland’s global and in-country experience in working on agricultural microinsurance by addressing critical climate risks, hazards and resulting economic shocks for farming people. Afghanistan is among the most exposed countries to climate change. Prolonged drought and progressive reduction of water reserves put at risk the survival of traditional livelihoods. By integrating innovative agriculture techniques and improving the management of natural resources, this project aims at promoting the resilience of rural communities. Climate change adaptation is key for the food security, and represents an institutional priority for the Swiss international cooperation.

This project will support returnees and the host communities to rebuild their livelihoods, generate income, and peacefully improve and manage natural resources for short-term relief and long-term food security. This will be achieved through increased food production, sustainable management and governance of natural resources, initiating alternative income opportunities, non-violent conflict resolution and GBV prevention. This intervention aligns with the humanitarian, peace and development nexus and will contribute to durable solutions.

Sustainably financed health systems are better able to respond to shocks such as a health crisis and are also in a better position to respond to patients’ health needs without exposing them to financial hardship. The P4H Social Health Protection Network provides coordinated support to low-and middle-income countries that want to raise more domestic resources for health and use available financing effectively for key health priorities.

Albania is reforming the vocational education and training as well as employment services to increase people’s employability, particularly of women, youth as well as people with disabilities and low-income. This final phase puts the focus on strengthening the capacities of the line ministry and its subordinated national agencies as well as on consolidating, upscaling and transferring the developed policies and regulations as well as best practices to complete the reform process.
