Contribution to the Geneva Global Hub for Education in Emergencies 2023-2025

Faced with the under-prioritisation of education in emergencies (EiE), members of the Geneva Global Hub for EiE (EiE Hub) have successfully formed an alliance to increase the visibility, political commitment and funding for EiE. Switzerland’s continued strong engagement with the EiE Hub will contribute to expand its membership, implement its 2022-2025 strategy and become a consolidated and financially sustainable entity. Through the EiE Hub, Switzerland aims to reinforce its policy dialogue and leader position on EiE, and to position International Geneva as the global centre for EiE.


Joint Programme Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainable Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JP DRR)

The authorities at all administrative levels will be supported to transform from reactive to proactive multi-sectoral disaster risk management and develop country-wide harmonized frameworks. Disaster risk reduction platforms will be set at all government levels to ensure better understanding of disaster risks and coordination of priority investments to increase resilience of vulnerable communities with a special focus on excluded population groups.

Decent work for Migrants in the Middle East

Migrant workers and refugees face obstacles to access decent work in the Middle East, one of the largest migrant hosting regions, which limits their ability to contribute to their countries of origin and destination. To maximize benefits of migration and reduce harm, Switzerland engages various public and private stakeholders for the promotion of decent working conditions in Jordan, Lebanon and the Gulf, through access to justice, migrant empowerment and addressing worker welfare in the green and just transition.


Ukraine: Anti-Corruption and Asset Recovery Support Project (ACARSU)

The devastating situation caused by the ongoing Russian military aggression against Ukraine necessitates a transparent and sustainable recovery process, which gives a boost to anti-corruption reforms. Switzerland, through Basel Institute on Governance, will strengthen capacities and expertise of relevant institutions and law enforcement agencies to enhance transparency and accountability in the recovery process. In order to ensure the most efficient use of its recovery funding, Switzerland will mainstream anti-corruption approaches in its cooperation programmes in Ukraine.

Derna Floods: Sending in-kind WASH modules incl. Flugkosten

Heavy storms and rains have caused deadly floods in Libya on Sep. 10th, 2023. Following the collapse of two major dams, an estimated 11,300 people have died, 10,000 are missing and over 200,000 displaced individuals. The town of Derna, where the dams were located, has been devastated. SDC is providing in-kind relief WASH modules to two INGO partners, namely IMC and Acted. 


Support to Principled Humanitarian Actions in Ukraine

Humanitarian needs in Ukraine remain persistent and compounded, especially in area where access is compromised due to security constraints or Russian military occupation. Switzerland is willing to support initiatives that advance practices, policies and understanding of humanitarian needs and dynamics, including improving the safety of humanitarian workers and the protection of vulnerable groups. In a highly politicized environment, a sound and principled humanitarian response needs to be upheld, coherently with Swiss humanitarian traditions.


Projet d’Appui à la Résiliece du Système Educatif Burkinabè - PARSEB

Fin mai 2023, on comptait plus de deux millions de déplacés internes au Burkina Faso, 6’150 écoles fermées et plus d’un million d’élèves affectés par la situation sécuritaire. Dans ce contexte, la Suisse et l’Union Européenne joignent leurs forces pour cofinancer les programmes des ONG Enfants du Monde et Educo. La capacité du système éducatif à offrir une éducation inclusive, sûre et de qualité aux déplacés internes et aux populations hôtes dans trois régions à forts défis sécuritaires est renforcée.


City Regions Food Systems (RUNRES)

Implemented by the Group of Sustainable Agroecosystems at ETHZ and local partners, RUNRES will improve the resilience of food systems in four different rural-urban regions across Africa. It will encourage organic and human waste recycling by implementing and scaling of viable innovations to transform waste into soil amendments or animal feed to serve as an input for agricultural production of smallholders, thereby contributing to food security, and human and environmental health in city region food systems.

Ukraine, UNOCHA contribution 2023 for Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF)

UNOCHA’s Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF) is a strategic and vital tool available to donors to pool their contributions into single, unearmarked funds to enable humanitarian partners to deliver timely, coordinated and principled assistance within the framework of Humanitarian Response Plans (HRPs) and Flash Appeals. The UHF thus enables a flexible and inclusive humanitarian response, strategically maximizing available resources.

Venezuela Humanitarian Fund (VHF) – Country-based Pooled Fund (CBPF)

The Venezuela Humanitarian Fund (VHF) is part of multilateral contributions for a Country based Pooled Fund (CBPF) that mobilizes and channels resources to humanitarian partners to respond to the humanitarian needs in Venezuela. The Fund operates within the parameters of the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP), with the objective of expanding the delivery of humanitarian assistance by focusing on critical priorities and needs.


Scale up Social and Impact Entrepreneurship

Social and Impact Enterprises (SIEs) address critical social and environmental challenges while being innovative, and generating positive development impact. For SIEs to thrive, they require an environment with well-functioning Ecosystem Support Organizations (ESOs). Strengthening SIEs and ESOs – with a focus on forcibly displaced persons – is a powerful catalyst for achieving the SDGs, aligning with Switzerland’s interest in contributing to sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
