Switzerland has been one of the front-runners positioning agroecology globally to support food systems transformation, notably following the aftermath of the UN Food Systems Summit in September 2021. This Agroecology Promotion Programme strengthens this momentum, by supporting the capacitation of, dissemination and implementation by leveraging actors to further embed agroecology within the civil society, policies and markets, globally, in Sub-Sahara Africa and South-East Asia.

JOR NRC Safe and Inclusive Schools (SIS) Programme

Switzerland aims to reduce barriers to sustainable solutions for children and adolescents through education programming in Jordan. With the project planned initiatives, capacity strengthening, evidence-based research and training, the school community will be mobilized for positive action within their schools and the improved knowledge and practices will increase the overall quality of teaching and learning, which in turn will improve retention rates in formal schools.

Improving the National Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) capacities of Mongolia

The intervention seeks to improve the national emergency response capacities of Mongolia in the area of Urban Search And Rescue (USAR). In Mongolia, USAR services are delivered by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Capacity building will be pursued through a selection of measures with special focus on targeted training in USAR techniques on the newly built training facilities, as well as support for organizational and operational conceptualization.
Promoting Sustainable Agricultural Market Systems (PROMAS)

Agriculture is the main source of income for 70% of the population and is an important means to improve people’s livelihood. The sector suffers from low productivity and an unfavourable business environment. Thanks to better functioning markets and capacity building, smallholder farmers will improve their income and resilience through enhanced productivity, improved access to markets, climate adaptation, financial services and private sector development in northern Mozambique.

More health workers with the right skills are needed to achieve the SDGs, particularly in low income countries. Switzerland contributes to a joint WHO, ILO and OECD program providing catalytic support to governments, social partners and other key stakeholders to develop, finance and implement national health workforce strategies and investment plans. This will improve the supply and employment of health workers, maximise their performance, create decent jobs and accelerate progress towards UHC.

Since 2019, the UN Global Compact Network Switzerland and Liechtenstein (GCNSL) has reinforced its capabilities and member basis, thus strengthening the implementation of responsible and sustainable business conduct within the highly internationalised Swiss private sector. The next phase will focus on scaling up impact and broaden partnerships with local networks in emerging and developing countries and fragile contexts to expand the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse (MSF-CH) delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics & disasters and to communities excluded from health services. It focuses on medical and surgical assistance as well as on strengthening of local healthcare. MSF-CH cares for mothers & children, provides sexual, reproductive & paediatric care, responds to epidemics such as Covid-19, and treats non-communicable diseases & mental health conditions. It brings to attention neglected crises and advocates for improved medical treatments and protocols.

Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG)

Switzerland with its longstanding engagement and experience in land and natural resource management will support a last phase of the “Mekong Region Land Governance” project. This Swiss flagship project will continue to support Alliances of Reform-Actors, including policy-makers and civil society, to improve policy-making environment and implementation toward improved land tenure security for vulnerable family farmers in the Mekong region, particularly in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Contribution to UNRWA’s Emergency Interventions in Lebanon 2023

Due to the several crises that have affected Lebanon over the past three years, the needs of Palestinian refugees have become more urgent. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is crucial to respond to the most basic needs of Palestine refugees as well as to maintain regional stability. Thus, in response to UNRWA's Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan Emergency Appeal 2023, Switzerland designates its support to the urgent needs of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, including the provision of cash assistance.

The World Wide Fund for Nature Switzerland is a Swiss NGO funded by foundations, private donors and its 300’000 members. As a fully autonomous organization it is part of WWF’s global network, which is present in almost 100 countries. Through and jointly with local WWF offices, it works towards sustaining natural resources such as freshwater, forests and coastlines whilst improving the livelihoods of disadvantaged and marginalized communities depending on functioning ecosystem services.

It is active in 32 countries with over 250 projects and about 1’600 staff addressing multiple dimensions of poverty and improving the living conditions of disadvantaged communities in the South and in Eastern Europe. Helvetas is an important actor of the Swiss International Cooperation promoting international solidarity and raising awareness about sustainable development, including in the tourism.
